The optics of the Pelicans franchise turnaround still amazes me

I know the season hasn’t started yet but from the day the AD trade demand went public to today has been crazy.
Rock bottom to legit excited about the whole team.
Any other franchise make a 180 this fast from a fan base excitement view point?
Maybe a Cleveland drafting Lebron but I don’t remember it being as dramatic of a change in opinion of a franchise.

I find myself more invested in what the Pels are doing than the Saints. Getting Zion was amazing

We're experiencing what the Saints experienced post Katrina. Saints went from punchline to contenders and highly respected league wide in like 2 years. It was amazing to see and we're seeing it again.

only thing i can think of close to this is when CSP Reggie and Brees all came in 2006

Saints went from 3-13 to the NFCCG in one year actually.
It ain't that easy in the NBA, unless superstars build their own teams lol.

Absolutely I haven’t been keeping up with the saints side much lately

The NFL left a sour taste in my mouth after the Saints got screwed last year.

If AD stayed and signed the Supermax while being loyal, Pels would look like OKC situation right now in a few years.

The Supermax idea is really not that great. The NBA needs to tweak it to where not all of that money effects the cap space

I definitely isn’t efficient or effective.

The Lakers gave up 3 first rounders I think for AD while the Saints gave up 13 first rounders for Davenport.

Griffin is a man on a mission. The guy doesn’t stop once the pieces are added and the moves are made. He goes on a freaking campaign with all of these interviews it’s insane. The guy has been doing interviews nonstop since the summer league started. He is everywhere promoting the Pelicans. It’s truly amazing to watch as this is unheard of.

Why is he so motivated? What does he has to prove? Does he even sleep?

Griff understood that this franchise could be fixed with a culture change, plus he had the AD haul ready to be negotiated. He hired in at the perfect time and I’m pretty sure he knew it was a win/win since this franchise was at rock bottom. Getting Zion elevated him to God mode with this fan base. I love what he has done because he was smart enough to see the potential and make the most of it with his vision. Most saw no real hope in this franchise. Now the other rookies have the fans in a frenzy and the season hasn’t even started. Griffin and Gayle have delivered so far.

Hot take: Pels will be a legit contender sooner rather than later. Maybe not next year, but the season after that I think we’re right in it.
NOLA will soon be a ring chaser destination.

Sadly I do as well. I say sadly bc I’ve been a Saints fan all my life and I moved from Louisiana a year or two after the Hornets arrived so I never got invested. Between the exciting young guns coming in for the Pels and the no call in the NFC Championship game absolutely crushing my soul, I’m more excited for Pelicans than I am for the Saints. Never thought I’d ever say that ever.

In the interview with NAW and Hayes after the game they were admonishing humbleness and saying they were just out there having fun and living their dream. It wasn’t a sound byte or coach speak it was genuine. Couple that with Zion being the antithesis of the modern nba in so many ways and Jrue who had offers to leave but chose to stay and lead this team.... I could go on, but the culture has already changed. It’s more authentic, it’s more, dare I say NOLA. It’s different and strange and attractive and people are gobbling it up. Zion is instant star power but this new culture that is being built underneath is something that I think will attract the right kind of people who you want to be a part of it also. It will be interesting to watch it grow but it’s got a special special kind of potential.
I never did make it to a hornets game or even to see AD, but now?
I’m comin’!

I love the people who are sleeping on us, many in the media having realize the job that Griff has done.
If you think the rookies are exciting to watch, wait until you see Ingram, Ball, Hart, Redrick, and Favors, and oh by the way don't forget Milo along with Hayes, Alexander, and Jrue. This will be one exciting team to watch and follow, I can't wait

Last night I was picking up dinner and they had the game on one of the TVs. A couple of certified truck nut plant baws were sitting at the bar drinking their Bud Lights talking pretty loudly about the Pelicans with their heavy Texas accents. Said baws recently moved here for work and are proud new Pelican full season ticket holders. We're getting transplant fans buying season tickets... things are turning around.
