At the end of this month, I'll be moving from New Orleans to Fort Worth for my job. The only thing I fear about the move other than leaving friends is the huge drop in quality of options in restaurants. I understand that the BBQ offering is going to be much better, went to Heim the other day and it was awesome, but if someone could recommend good spots that aren't BBQ that would be much appreciated!

Looking for any and all recs, we eat anything.

BBQ, TexMex, and maybe "farm to table" will outshine anything that New Orleans offers. Everything else, especially seafood and Vietnamese, will be a considerable drop-off.

Not really too helpful, but Rodeo Goat is good for burgers. Saint Emilion is an alright, upscale French restaurant. It would probably struggle in New Orleans though. The Woodshed is a pretty good barbecue restaurant. I can't recall the names of any TexMex spots. That said, the seedier and grimier it looks, the better.

Los Paisanos and Los Aserderos are 2 great hole-n-the-wall real old school tex-mex places over by the stockyards. Joe T Garcias is over there too and a lot of people will recommend it but its average tourist food with a nice patio for drinking margs.

The Bearded Lady is a cool bar with chef driven food. It is one of my favorite places to hang in FW but they have just moved locations and I haven't been to the new place yet. Other places, The Capital Grill, Lil's Bistro, Lonesome Dove, Reata. You won't find much good seafood in FW. Dallas has a much more broad variety of ethnic food but good seafood up here is a challenge. In Dallas, Half Shales in Snider Plaza next to SMU is one of my favorites. It leans cajun and isnt too expensive. For good, basic fried catfish its Hook, Line & Sinker on McKinney.

Ellerbe’s on Magnolia is very good, Waters downtown has decent seafood( not NOLA but credible). Salsa Limon, Velvet Tacos, Taco Diner. Istanbul Grill and Bird Cafe are good to very good, depending on what you like. Joe T’s is average at best but drinking g margaritas on that patio is a fine way to waste an afternoon. Rodeo Goat, Bearded Lady and Fred’s for burgers. Lived in FW for many yrs and really enjoyed it there, hope you do also

Hey don't miss Lonsome Dove just north of down town, pricy but Tim Love is chef and it is great. I' love this place. The elk sliders as apps is awesome as well as his Mac and cheese. Great specials of seafood? Had a great Striper ther once.

There are better Tex mex that Joe TS but it ain't bad for a one option resturat, check out Uncle Houlios on Beach st,

You will like Fort Worth a lot. Very up and coming city with a lot going for it.

I bet you could fool a lot of people by asking them which is bigger, New Orleans or Fort Worth.

According to 2018 census, New Orleans has 418,000 people and Fort Worth has 895,000

They are about to open their own arena to host events and concerts that seats 15,000. Already have Stapleton and George Strait booked for this fall. Take the kids to the annual stock show and rodeo every February.

Panther Island Pavilion is a cool venue on the river downtown that hosts festivals and music.

They have a good food scene. West 7th has some good spots. For more laid back, check out Fred’s Texas Cafe

Been there forever and has a great menu with breakfast to chicken fried steak. Also has an adjacent stage with live music. It was on Diners Drive In’s and Dives

Second Rodeo Goat. One of my favorite burger places - actually maybe my fav. burger joint overall for atmosphere and consistent food with a good beer drinking vibe

You are also 15 miles from Arlington for stuff to do and 30 miles from Dallas.

Joe. Garcia's is a mexican place there I've been to for a corporate event and I recall it being pretty good. Also you should go to the rodeo at least once

Joe T's is more of a landmark than stellar tex-mex.

They do have an awesome patio that's worth the visit, though.

What kind of places are you looking for? Del Friscos or Reata for high end food and steaks. There are many holes in the wall that have great food too. Fred’s burgers is amazing and there are a few locations.

What part of Fort Worth?

I’m only over there during lunch times and seem to mostly end up at Fred’s Texas Cafe.

I heard good things about La Familia Mexican a block or two over from Fred’s.
