I'm not sure of this one meets your exact request, but Saddam's Secrets by Georges Sada was an interesting read.

Thomas Ricks Fiasco is pretty good. Obviously has a bias but lays out a lot of inside baseball.

Cobra II, although it may be a little dated. It was written in 2006, but I remember it being very good.

Not sure if this will fit into what you're looking for, but during the war, I loved reading Michael Yon's article. He was imbedded with a number of different units throughout Iraq and Afghanistan. LINK
