Down by 12points with 3 minutes left you need a shooter that can knock down 3 pointers. All I'm seeing and hearing we are loaded at point guard. Yes we are...

But...There is no one that is a sharpshooter from deep. I was for Hunter but I changed my mind me.

Marc Stein:
Stat of the Day: Teams that won the 3-point line went 62-20 in the NBA playoffs.

Take Garland.

I love Jrue and I’m not saying move him, but potentially being able to slide Garland into Jrues role in a few years is so enticing.

If Garland and Lonzo both develop you’re looking at a monster backcourt that fit well together and can be the best in the league for a decade. That’s just so difficult to pass up.

The hell? He did exactly what his job was. He did it in an assholish way from out perspective, but in the end he got what his client and boss wanted. AD is a Laker.

Does that automatically mean he's going to get every single player on the Lakers? Soonest he can get away with that is what, 2024? LeBron will be almost out so would AD become the new darling of the NBA he must kowtow to?

I don't think AD has that in him. I'd bet Garland has more of that kinda charisma and I know NOTHING about Garland.

If we don’t take him or trade him, I’m going to be incredibly disappointed and it will haunt me for years to come, when he is an all star every year on a different team. Of course barring injury.

They can draft garland & he can but a super sub

And given lonzos size & Jrue s defensive prowess they can run out 3 guards in some matchups

"loaded"?

no, we have a rising player, with not much behind him... it's actually probably, behind center, our weakest position...

that being said, while Garland can get you buckets quickly, i've read/heard/seen nothing about his defensive prowess, so he may be giving up buckets quickly too... ideally, you'd have Ball on the floor, for his defense, in crunch time with someone else getting you buckets...

Totally agree. A guy like Covington, solid player, but how much does he move the needle for this team?

Say you stand pat, draft Garland and go into the season with the team we currently have plus a FA big or two. For this exercise lets say this team wins 45 games. Maybe realistic, maybe not, idk. But 45 games for this exercise.

Now this of that same roster, but sub out Garland and sub in Covington. How much better is that team over the course of an 82 game season? Are they 10 games better? 2 games better?

Again impossible to know the right answer, but I have a feeling that number would be closer to 45 than 55.

I just don’t think a player of Covington’s abilities makes this team go from bad to average, or average to good, or good to great, and so on. I don’t think he really moves the needle all that much for you.

Wouldn’t you much prefer the potentially star that in his prime could potentially be a 15-20 EWA guy?

Garland has that CJ/Dame build. 6'3 athletic sharpshooter. He's serviceable on defense too. I'm taking him and moving him to SG to learn behind jrue

Christ I hope they pick him, just get him.

Don’t mess around w/ trading down for 8 & 10, it’s not worth it.

Who would you theoretically pick there anyway?? Culver, white, and Hunter are gone at 5, 6, and 7..anyone at 8 (Reddish?) is a gamble and even more of a gamble at 10.

Garland has the ability to be a superstar. Take him.

I can't sleep because I am so excited. If we keep #4 and Garland is not the choice, I will be incredibly disappointed. He's the talent we need, and like someone said, I would hate to see him light it up in Cleveland if we pass on him.
