I commute about 10 hours a week and have been listening to Audible for many years. What are yalls best of the best Audible books? I have enjoyed:
Mr Mercedes trilogy
Mountain Man series
Adrian’s Diary series
Red Rising series
Three Body problem series
Daemon and other Suarez books
One second after series.
Just to name a few

Audiobooks were a game changer for me.

Listen while commuting, working depending on your job, exercising, doing bullshite around the house, etc.

I was an avid reader growing up and through my 20s but for whatever reason dwindled down to a book a month at most.

Now I listen to a book a week, sometimes more.

Audible is a good base, they have all the new releases, but it can be pretty expensive after your monthly credit.

This is where your library steps in. Whether Overdrive/Libby or RBDigital, you have free access to thousands of books. Most popular series are available, minus a few individual titles.

Even if I buy a book or receive one as a gift I almost always download and listen to the audible version instead.

The narrator can make a big difference. Anything with George Guidall is worth a listen. He does the entire Longmire series and a bunch of other westerns.

Check out the Joe Ledger Series

If you like crude childish humor then check out the cavern and creatures series by Robert Bevan. It’s about 4 dipshits from Gulfport that get sucked into a D&D type world. Shenanigans ensue. It’s mindless and funny.

Check out audiobookbay if you don’t want to waste an audible credit trying them out

I think actually reading the written word is important for language and vocabulary development earlier in one's life/educational process, but there comes a point where I don't feel it makes a difference. I'm almost always reading something in print and listening to something on Audible at the sometime, and if it's something that is pretty complex, or long and I really like it, I'll buy the Kindle version as well and take advantage of whisper sync. Life is way too short not to Audible.

Which download link do you click on audiobookbay or are you creating a profile? A step by step of what you do to make this work would be appreciated. Thanks for the source!

I'll be one of the last people in America reading paper books but Audible's good for the commute. I have an hour drive to work and not as much time to read as I used to except when sitting on a plane. I still prefer book books but Audible helps me make progress on the reading list.

I feel like you are giving up control of the way you read and think if you rely on audible. Not just on linearity or the lack of it, but also substitution of the speaker's emphasis for your own reaction to the material.

I use Audible, I like it, but it’s pricey in my opinion.

So my reading list has gotten out of control honestly

This is my problem. Probably 85% of the pics I have on my phone are books that I need to read on top of the hundreds of books that I have at my house that I still need to read. I use it for secondary books that I don’t necessarily feel the need to actually read.

However, and this is the case for probably everybody, my retention isn’t near as high when I listen to audiobooks.

95% of the books I have are military history. I’ll listen to fiction stuff on audible mostly.

I've tried doing the audiobook thing. I just can't. It doesn't provide the same pleasure/experience for me as reading a physical book.

I have it and I enjoy it. Basically you pay for one book per month...they give you a credit.

I drive a lot so it comes in handy.

My commute is 30 minutes. I love my Audible subscription. I average 1 or 2 books a month.

Some books are improved by the narrator. Finding the right narrator is the trick. I purchase audiobooks based on the narrator, not the author.

If you've never tried audiobooks, I suggest you get Boys in the Boat narrated by Edward Herrmann. If you are like me, you'll be hooked, and you will also see how important the narrator is. Always play a sample before you get one just to check out the narrator.

I've been using audible for about 2-3 years now.

I do the platinum annual.

My wife and I share the account for books.

I was never much of an avid "in the hand" book reader, as it was never convenient for me with the job and other things I had to study.

But audible is great for commutes, doing yard work and now I listen a fair bit while putting the baby to sleep.

It would be harder for me to choose just to sit down and listen to a book like I would do if I wanted to read a book. I mostly like to do it while I'm doing something else.

I've been a big fan of Audible. Ties well with the kindle unlimited and I've been able to consume so much more. Lots of books that I always wanted to read but could never make time for, but I'm able to get through so much more.

Of course, the narrator makes or breaks it, but there are so many great narrators. I feel like I've enjoyed characters and moments more with another tool to help paint the picture in my mind.
