Why do golf courses hate Golf Now?

...and if so, why do they use the site? I say this because I typically rotate through 3-4 courses on a regular basis. If I made the reservation on Golfnow, it seems like the guy at the counter always acts put off or rolls his eyes.

Because they want you to pay more

They pay a royalty to Golf Now for every round booked through the site, plus they are at a discount to their rack rates.

The flip side is they prob wouldn’t sell some of those tee times if they weren’t on Golf Now.

I’ll sometimes call the course and ask if they want to offer me the same rate and book directly. Some take me up on it, some don’t.

I have once or twice probably 5 or so years ago. I would assume it's because they saw an early to mid 20s guy at a high use muni and assumed I would suck and have no etipuette.

Thats really rare, though, I feel like, and I've even had the shop to tell me to book on GN on a handful of occasions as opposed through them directly.

I do that a lot also. It's a win/win for me and the course. I don't have to pay the booking fee and the course doesn't have to give Golf Now a cut.

I've had it happen a couple of local courses here in South Georgia. Almost like they are above saving money. If they offer it on GN I try to take advantage of it, why not right?

In the end, who cares.

There’s times they pay more on golf now. Plus a few. It’s pretty funny that instead of people calling a shop they would rather book online without knowing how much they save.

Not sure if it is still the case, but I was told that the hot deals go directly to Golf Now and the club doesn't get a cut on those rounds.

The "hot deals" go directly to Golf Now the course gets zero of that. It forces courses to bid against themselves. Example theres a hot deal for $25 at 1245 but someone will call and say they cant make that time but can they have that rate at 130. If the course says no then theyre a-holes. Or someone books 2 of the 4 spots on a hot deal, then someone an hour later has a 4 someone but only 2 spots left, can we get the hot deal rate on our entire group? Again, bidding against yourself. Being in golf business i fricking hate golf now.

This is my one knock on Atchafalaya. You go on their site to check tee times price and availability and when you get there they try to charge you twice the amount listed on THEIR site. They say you have to book it online through GolfNow to get that price but this isnt on GolfNow's site this is the courses site. Aggravating.

I've had this exact thing happen to me twice, once the other guy behind the counter yells "we shouldn't let yall play!" half joking sounding.

I got that reaction once, it was by a kid working at city park. I just brushed it off, it’s not like the club losing a cut if the green fee is impacting his pay at his summer job

I like booking on Golfnow because it’s more convenient regardless of the Hotdeal aspect. I typically don’t like those because you have to prepay, and if something comes up, you’re just screwed.

If you have a choice between 3-4 courses then it’s easy to get online, see which one has the most availability, and book as opposed to having to call pro shops and talk to some grumpy old man.

The only time I’ve been treated rudely was if I bought the ’hotdeal’. It was very obvious they didn’t want me there because of it.

Those guys can go frick themselves, then. Nobody is forcing them to put their tee times on Golf Now. They do it because it's good for business.
