studio's game?
That happened when EA pulled many (I have heard as many as 1/3rd) of their best devs off of Mass Effect: Andromeda, and moved them to Anthem

Who tanks a major flagship IP, in favor of a Destiny clone?
I don't blame EA or Frostbite. Bioware fricked that up with terrible management from the top down.

According to an investigation by Kotaku's Jason Schreier, the focus on Anthem (then 'Dylan') meant that many skilled devs were pulled off the Mass Effect title to work on the new IP. In the eyes of many fans, Anthem is 'the game that killed Mass Effect: Andromeda'.

NCSoft pulled the plug on City of Heroes/Villains (which was still a money-maker) to focus on Lineage 2.

I mean that was a sequel
But I am talking about bailing during development, and before release, of the game to make your own new IP that is little more than the clone of another company's IP.

I would guess this happens a lot more than you think.

Anthem could have a been a great game had they finished alpha testing before releasing it.

And made it the survival game they meant it to be, instead of the generic loot and shoot Destiny clone
