Paris and Barcelona Restaurants

I just saw some Paris restaurant recommendations in another thread which seemed great. I am also staying in Le Marais, but willing to venture out to other areas.
Also, looking for recommendations for Barcelona. For both Paris and Barcelona, please also notate where reservations would be needed.

Restaurant recommendations for either city could have a multi-page topic rivaled only by a Travel Ball post on the OT.
Barcelona to me is the best eating city in all of Europe, but Paris is up there also. Before we get focused on specific places, would recommend you do some 30,000' research.
For Paris, rather than a list of places (which is also coming) read up about the Bistronomy movement and Le Fooding. Both of them have sought to strip down traditional Parisian restaurant experiences into something more egalitarian and approachable. So you get a chef who trained in Michelin 3 Star places but opens a wine bar/bistro serving beautiful food without the pretense. Of course, everyone will have their favorite recommendations but these newer style places (and its probably a 20 year old movement) are great spots to visit.
In Barcelona, I would say your best bet is going to be exploring the post el Bulli careers of the thousands of chefs it launched. The Costa Brava was the original Copenhagen of the food world, developing new techniques, incorporating all sorts of world flavors, and reinventing cuisine in the late 90s-2011. While the international food world's attention has shifted to Scandinavia and eating mollusk fermented wheatberries, a whole generation of Spanish chefs have settled into Barcelona (and elsewhere) and are coking outstanding food. Abundant seafood, game, meat, and innovation on tradition guide some of the best cooking in Barcelona.

RE: Paris, I always encourage people to look beyond the formal dining experiences, Michelin stars, and high end stuff. So much of Parisian life is still in the cafe closest to one's house/office/school, or the wine bar where your friends hang out.
I do like Sophie Pic's cooking; she's got 3 Michelin stars and a couple of restaurants now....but she also operates Daily Pic, in Beaupassage, off Boulevard Raspail kind of halfway between Solferino metro and Sevres-Babylon stop. It's prepared food, in glass jars, as only the French could produce: lovely to look at & to eat. If you like pretty things that taste good, this will be the picnic food of your dreams. One of the signal pleasures of Paris are the sheer numbers (and quality) of pastry shops: they're as thick on the ground as bars in NOLA. Eat every lemon tart you find, and decide which one you like best (my fave is from Arnaud Lahrer: LINK )

Barcelona- All of these places ore in the Old Town, either in El Born or the Gothic Quarter: My favorite restaurant is Tast Ller, an small,upscale place with a set menu and wine parings. The food was fantastic. Reservations weeks in advance are usually necessary.......Favorite gourmet bistro - Cafe De L'Academia. Great food and atmosphere. More laid back than Tast Ller...... Favorite tapas bar - Tapeo. Fun place with good food..... Two other very good tapas style restaurants are Arcano and Lambeer.............Paris - I just got back. The list of great restaurants is endless. What part of the city do you want to be in? EDIT: I just saw that you are staying in the Marais. In the other thread I recommended Le Temps de Cerises which is on the edge of the Marais. Great little back street bistro.

For Paris-We had good luck in Saint Germain. The Gregory, there was another place along a pedestrian only street that was amazing, LA Jacobine. It hard to go wrong, just remember that places that work hard to get people in the door, may nit be very good.
Barcelona-can't remember the name of the place but it was right off of the main drag, Las Rambla. Huge wine selection

Was just about to recommend La Jacobine. Nice place that won't break the bank, either.

Cerveceria Catalan is excellent for tapas. They have a large selection and great service. Their sangria is some of the best we had.

the only one I remember the name of in Barcelona, was Disfrutar... it was a pretty amazing experience... elBulli alums opened it a few years ago...

I wouldn’t recommend anywhere on La Rambla. It’s all shitty tourist food.
As for Paris I will ask my Fiancée. She is from the south but lived in Paris for 3 years and knows a lot of great places that aren’t touristy.
