Anybody know of any place in Baton Rouge or New Orleans that has spicier than normal crawfish? Before Katrina, there was a place on St Claude, Captain Sal’s, that had crawfish that was off the charts. I used to drive from Laplace to Nola just to buy them. A few years ago, I went to a seafood market on Chef Mentuer called Captain Sal’s, but the crawfish were not the same. The place on St Claude was Black/Vietnamese operated. TIA

They are still in business at 3168 St. Claude Ave. Google them for the phone number.

Thanks, I just called them and the young girl that answered the phone is not sure if it is the same location or not. I will give them a try. $4.99 a lb, in mid May, in New Orleans, they better be “special”.

That's a rip off.

Definitely high priced for this time of year. I just ordered 2 sacks for this Sunday and it will be $1.80 a lb. cash for live by the sack.

I know it's a business and they have overhead, but $3.19 a lb. over retail for live is ridiculous---and you know they are paying a hell of a lot less wholesale for them than the guy on the street.

I don't either because if I want spicy crawfish, I'll cook them myself, like a real man.

That's pretty much the point I was trying to make. I know he's probably paying less than $1 a lb. for them live, by the sack, so that makes his price all the more ridiculous.

That's a hell of a markup just for boiling them.

Agreed there. I see your point now. It seems about $1 is the standard markup for boiled right now. Not $3

Just Wingin It on Jefferson in BR has some damn good crawfish. I usually find crawfish cooked for the masses rather bland but theirs aren't.

I'm not sure you are thinking about Captn. Sals before the storm. There was a place called Hanks on St. Claude the was great. Super, super sweat on brow spicy. All the service people in the Quarter went there.

It depends where you are catching them. Ive caught some in the Basin, that are spicy as hell straight out the water.

We eat them right there in the boat with nothing but a little lemon.
