This speech may have something to do with it?

Was he always a dick? I watched this ceremony and speech and thought it was a dick move. I get it that he may have been saying FU to the HOF. But a bunch of your fans were in the stands. Maybe many made a trip to fricking Cleveland. At least say a few words. Even super aloof Peart used his big boy words and gave a speech.

He and Geddy have always been known to be very engaging and outgoing with fans. I don't think any true Rush fans would have been offended by that. In fact, they probably completely agreed with him. Neil is the one that has always had a weird, almost antagonistic approach to the fans.

Alex Lifeson is a good guitarist that created some outstanding riffs within the Rush song catalog, but he is not among the guitar greats. He can do his own music, but from videos of him solo with his guitar it seems like he would be almost lost if put outside his comfort zone. For example someone like Clapton could walk on stage with any performer in the world, and make a positive contribution to what was being performed, Lifeson not so much.

Most Rush fans loved the Blah Blah Blah speech. They understood what he was doing and appreciated it. It wasn't just a FU to the HOF, it was making fun of all the pretentious and hollow speeches that you see at the HOF.

Clapton could walk on the stage and play the same pentatonic licks from the first Creem album and some would swoon. Me, not so much. I much prefer Alex.

Meh.

To each their own. This isn’t the poli board. We can agree to disagree. IMO to mock being pretentious he did something just as pretentious.

But if Rush fans liked it? So be it.
