Wife and I are going on a cruise next month and stopping off in Grand Cayman, we are wanting to pick up a Cuban cigar just for fun to bring back for our son. Anyone know a place, and average price?

$10-$15 should be a decent priced cigar at any merchant. Look for an actual tobacconist shop, don't buy them off the street.

I am not a cigar guy, but have been told cuban cigars are pretty much a thing of the past. All the good rollers and plants have migrated to legal export countries.

And be careful, in pretty much all the islands they hustle fake cubans. So unless you actually know the manufacturer, dont buy.

If you’re stopping in Cozumel, there’s an official shop on the main square there:

La Casa de Habanos

Agree with above poster. You can get some great Dominican cigars at any of your ports.

This is true. “Cubans are still making the best cigars in the world. They just aren’t doing it in Cuba.”

Cuban tobacco has not immigrated with them.

Old Havana Cigars

PS: Not that you pronounced it wrong but it’s KAY-man.

The locals appreciate it when we get the pronunciation to their liking.

My drinking hole in Cayman, about a mile North of the cruise ship dumping off spot-

Fidel Murphy’s Pub

Ex-pats and snowbirds there. Interesting crowd at times.

Do you really need to exit a cruise ship and go ashore to a Margaritaville?

The "Cuban Cigars aren't the same anymore" trope is parrotted by a whole bunch of people I'm willing to bet haven't smoked a real, quality Cuban. They're still the best cigars in the world, at least to my taste. Grab your son a Partagas Serie D #4, H. Uppman Magnum 54, or a Cohiba Siglo VI (or all 3, if you can find them) and he won't be disappointed

I guess boiled crawfish don't taste the same in Texas as they do in Louisiana either.

It's been a couple years since my last visit but the Westin on 7 Mile Beach used to maintain a fairly decent humidor of Cuban cigars in their lobby bar. If you can't locate a better option closer to the cruise terminal, take a 10 minute cab ride down to the Westin and see if they have something you want.

I'm a big fan of the Montecristo No. 2... must say Habana on the wrapper though.

As a guy who has researched tobacco extensively I can assure you that Cuban cigars are a shadow of their former glory.

Pick up a cigar aficionado mag some time. Look to see where the top rated cigars are coming out of.
Nicaragua. The Dominican Republic. Honduras.
Sure, Cuba still has a few that place, but they’re not taking first prize or dominating the rest of the list.

Vuelta Abajo is still a great place to grow tobacco, no one is disputing that, but so much more goes into making a truly special cigar than just the terroir. Proper aging, blending, and rolling are arts in and of themselves, and most of the greatest artists did indeed leave Cuba after Castro took over. Also, if you truly think Cuban seed hasn’t been planted in places other than Cuba then I’ve got a tobacco farm in Arizona to sell you.

If you are stopping there I am quite sure your cruise will stop in Cozumel.
Look up online but there is a cigar shop near the airport that is legit called La Casa Del Habano.
It comes highly rated. That's where I got mine and they are the real deal.

I'm going to Havana, Cuba the first week of May. Found out I can bring home 100 cigars. So with my girlfriend it will be 200.
