It is well after midnight on Tuesday morning in Paris. We arrived here on Sunday for a vacation I have talked about on this board the last couple of weeks. Monday was a beautiful weathed day - clear and cool. At about 6:30 pm we left our hotel near rue du Buci and rue de Seine in the 6th looking for a place to have drinks before dinner. We were walking dowe rue St. Andre des Arts when we smelled smoke. As we got to the end of the Street we Heard sirens and knew something was on fire.

coming from the Cathedral. Pretty soon flames were shooting up and the whole building was engulfed in smoke. We stayed out there for an hour and a half watching the devestating scene. ........After dinned at Willi's Wine Bar we returned to the hotel via the same route. There were thousands of people in front of Place St. Michel chanting prayers and singing religious songs in French. It was quite a moving scene. I have visited this magnificent church many times and have atended mass there on several occasions. The artwork and stained glass were something to behold. This is devastating.

Thanks for the report from the scene. It was hard to watch the video footage, I can only imagine seeing the destruction first hand. Let’s hope it was human error or accident and not an intentional act. I’m not religious, but way back in childhood memory is the Hail Mary in French, I said some today for Notre Dame de Paris.

You were probably standing next to a fellow TD'er who was also there.

BigLandowski was on scene, while also on vacation there.
