Looking for a modem for Comcast 150 plan.

What all should I be looking for?

Hearing to stay away from intel puma chipset modems.

Do I need Docsis 3.1?

What do the channels do for me (ex. 32 x 8)?

I have Samsung SmartThings WiFi for mesh/router

I got a Netgear CM1000, because I just got gigablast. It's DOCSIS 3.1, and I'd suggest you do the same if you plan on upgrading in the future. IIRC, it was $160 at Best Buy.

Eta: For some reason, my gigablast is topping out at like 215/40. Got a supervisor coming tomorrow to check this shite out, since the normal tech said my modem wouldn't work on Cox (it is verified by Cox online)

It really depends on how long you plan to be at this speed and how long you want your modem to last. If you are going to be 150 or close for a few years just get one of the cheaper $50-60 series modem(16x4).

I think each channel can handle a certain amount of bandwidth. To increase speeds, the modem merges multiple channels. To future proof, get the modem with the most channels.

Does your router support gigabit? Also, when doing speed test avoid using a broswer if you can as it can slow things down. If you're on Windows 10, you can install the Speedtest app from the MS store.

Google WiFi router, but run tests through ethernet using testmy.net

Unbeknownst to me, the supervisor canceled my appointment as soon as the tech left yesterday, so I'm stuck with slow internet again
