Accidentally washed my AirPods in the washing machine

Well, it finally happened. I finished mowing and took my jeans straight to the washing machine and threw them in with a full load of laundry, and started the machine up. I didn't think to check the pockets of the jeans because I never mow with my keys or wallet in them. Unfortunately for me, my AirPods (inside of their charging case) were still inside of the pocket of the jeans as they washed . I did not notice what I had done until I pulled the completely washed load of clothes out of the washer to put into the dryer, and there they (charging case containing AirPods) were, located at the bottom of the washing machine. Like most people who would panic at this sight, I opened the case with the slightest hope of seeing the little LED light illuminate, but that didn't happen. I went ahead and removed the AirPods from the charging case, and set them, along with the opened charging case out to completely air dry. I still haven't tried plugging them in to see if they begin to charge because I want to make absolutely sure that there is no moisture inside of the case or the AirPods themselves. This evening, I did some research and found several people mentioning that after 1-3 weeks, their AirPods mysteriously started working (and the case charging) again. I'm hoping for this same outcome. I even ordered a bunch of silica gel packs to put into a sealed container with the AirPods and charging case for a couple of days. Has anyone else here ever accidentally submerged their AirPods, causing them to no longer work, and then later found them to work like normal?

TL;DR: AirPods got washed in full washing machine cycle. Hoping they work again once completely dry. Anyone else face similar issue, but lucked out and their AirPods went back to working at some point?

Mine have been through the washing machine twice and they still work. Give them a few days to dry out and they should be ok.

Take it to a Staples and have them put it in the Drybox. Idk how much they will charge but worth a shot. Worked for my sons phone when he thought it was waterproof

Look on the bright side. Now you won't look like you have jizz coming out of your ears.

I've done the same. They were in my pants pocket. Found them at the bottom of the washing machine after a full wash cycle. Put them on to see if they worked and was surprised that they did.

Last night, I put the case (opened) and the removed AirPods sealed all together in a Ziploc bag with several packets of silica desiccant gel packs. I've not attempted to charge the AirPods/case since finding them in the washing machine because I don't want to fry them, if they aren't already. I'm hoping for a miracle, but being that the little LED light wouldn't illuminate when opening the case, my hopes aren't very high.

I've never heard of this until now. I checked online and Staples only charges $39.99 for small devices, and if the AirPods still won't work afterwards, they do not charge at all. I think I'm going to give that a shot as well. Thanks for the recommendation.

ETA: Scratch that idea. I just realized that what I thought was Staples in my area is actually an Office Depot. The nearest Staples to me is 85 miles away (in Nacogdoches, TX) .

Coincidentally, after several days of being enclosed in a sealed, airtight container with a shite ton of brand new silica desiccant gel packs, I removed the AirPods for the first time today, and found that the charging case is definitely shot. When plugging the lightning cable in to the charging case, the LED indicator would not illuminate. The AirPods were also unable to reconnect to my iPhone while inside and outside of the case......UNTIL I placed them into a separate functioning charging case. Immediately, the AirPods' battery level (along with that particular charging case's battery level) popped up on my phone's screen. I placed the AirPods into my ears, and BEHOLD, I was greeted by the tone telling me that they've connected to my phone and were ready to jam. I then anxiously went to my music app, and with a short 'fingers crossed' moment in anticipation that I wouldn't hear a bunch of muffled sounds coming through their speakers, I selected a song to play. BOOM! The AirPods started jamming, sounding just as good as they did when they were brand new. It doesn't appear that water affected them one bit! It now looks like I am only going to have to pay $69.00 for a new charging case, instead of $159.00 for a whole new set.

I had to get a new charging case for my AirPods when I did the same. However, the battery life in the left AirPod has never been the same. It lasts about an hour, but gives me a low battery warning after 20-30 minutes.

Before you go out and buy a new charging case right away take a look into the new wireless charging that apple just launched. Just heard about the prodouct this morning. I believe it is backwards compatible to the first generation of airpods you currently have. May cost a little more, but if you want to go that route better to do it before you buy the $69 charging case.

For drying wet phones and earbuds, go to Lowe’s and buy some Damp Rid. It’s a cheap bulk version of silica packets. Pour a bowl of it, then put the bowl and the electronic item inside a sealed Tupperware type container, and let the desiccant suck the moisture out of the item for a couple of days.

I revived a drowned iPhone this way.

I ordered a new (V1) case for $69 last night, and then checked this forum today and learned that Apple announced a stand-alone V2 wireless charging case for only $79, available for immediate order. I called to cancel my initial order, but they said I’ll have to just return the package when I receive it since it’s gone through processing already. I then ordered the wireless charging case for only $10 more.
