I think this is the only way I'm going to really get on a strict nutritional plan.

Does anyone have experiences - good/bad - with some of the home delivery options?

Home Chef
Green Chef
Sun Basket
Freshly
Blue Apron

I'm looking for a meal plan to cut fat - higher protein, lower carbs.

I don't mind prepping to an extent, but there is a shite-show of various websites loaded with advertisement and food pics that I don't have time to surf through or the patience to go to a Eastern Siberian grocery store to find Finely ground root of the Siberian sycamore tree or some other obscure ingredient.

Meal prepping is really easy. Like, stupid easy. I buy 3 lbs of ground bison, 3 lbs of ground turkey, two packs of single mashed potato cups, a bushel of asparagus and a big pack of sausage. I make 8 oz meatloafs with the ground meats and throw that and everything else in the over. I’ll have 10 meals worth of food prepped in under an hour.

The home delivery meals are cool and all, but you’ll be paying more money for meals you can make at home.

For breakfast I eat the Kodiak Cakes oatmeal cups

I really like Blue Apron. Not sure it will really do what you want, but it's great for us.

Think again. Most of those meals include a lot of processed foods. Meal prepping is very easy. When you shop, go to produce, meat, and dairy sections. That’s it. The rest of the store is off limits except for spices and broth.

Neither do I. It really isn't that hard. As mentioned, stay in the produce, meat, dairy areas. Stay the hell away from the center, processed, boxed crap that is magically closer to you. We'd probably solve 95% of our problems in obesity doing just that simple thing. All of us here agree on center isles being terrible.

Go to Amazon and order some meal prep containers and bowls - dirt cheap

every sunday fire up the grill and cook a shite ton of meat
have the rice on the stove or Instantpot cooked in bone broth
sweet potoaes in the oven
asparagus blanched

assemble meals for 4 days - freeze the rest

Those are simple, I have a ton of my own lowcarb and high protein recipes (with calcualted macros) that I make ahead of time like Greek eggplant lasagna.

Most people like to lay out their meals per day in containers

But I just cook a frick ton of ground beef and chicken ever few days. Three cups of rice for the week, peppers and onions for the week. Let’s me mix and match each day and pick what ever frozen vegetables I throw in the wok on the spot or just spiral my zucchini.

I eat the same things every week and rotate my carbs. However, I want to replace my mashed potato cups. They’re the cheap Value Time cups I get from Wal-Mart, so they’re probably processed crap.

Green Chef
I tried this one because a friend added me at a discount. The food is OK, but I just find the whole thing distasteful. For one, everything is over-packed. You get a cardboard box that has ice packs inside. And every single ingredient is wrapped separately. One of the salads had some black olives in the recipe, so literally 4 olives were in their own separate packaging. I just thought that was obscene and not at all how I wanted to live.

I did appreciate the fact that they had a "keto" plan.

I agree with the rest on here that it's just not that hard to cook without all this complication. My meals consist of a meat and a veggie (sometimes). Nothing could be easier to prepare. You don't need all these complicated recipes.

I’ve done blue apron and hello fresh in the past. Preferred hello fresh because they peel their garlic and seemed to have had more recipes. Blue apron repeated itself.

However, I cancelled both memberships after a couple of months. Now that I utilize grocery pick up, I no longer need a mail delivery service.

Have used Blue Apron and Home Chef. Home Chef is very basic and seemed to repeat often when I was using it. I prefer Blue Apron as it seems to have a better variety of ingredients. Blue Apron isn't really carb friendly though. That said, they are starting to have low carb options each week.

Services like Icon meals are more geared towards the healthy living crowd

Services like that have meals for all types of goals and ever have the macros break down on the package

I tried a couple of these programs and quickly canceled.

First off they sit a heavy cardboard box outside your doorstep. In 90 degree LA heat the packaging ice half melted and a lot of times the food was old/moldy.

Then you open the box and find a myriad of ingrediants randomly tossed in there not sure which ingrediant goes with which meal. So then you have to use your phone and pull up your order to remember the meals.

It was too much hassle, I'd rather spend 20 minutes at the grocery store each week, getting enough food that lasts just as long for a fraction of the price. If you don't like shopping then use Walmart's delivery service.

Depending on meal frequency how hard is it to put a half pound or pound of meat in a skillet with seasoning of choice. Add some mushrooms if your feeling particularly adventurous.

If you're in to veggies get the steamables. Super easy.

You're trying to cut? Keep it simple. You're not trying win Master Chef.

I have used several meal services and none of them were like that. Everything comes labeled with directions.

I will subscribe once or twice a year for something different. Currently I'm using Green Chef keto, and it's good. Sun Basket had the best meals but their summer packaging sucked. Blue Apron was good but not particularly diet friendly, and I had delivery issues. I used Hello Fresh years ago and had problems with the quality of their produce.

We use freshly. We needed something to get us through the spring (our busiest time) without eating out 6 nights a week. Sundays are literally the only day where we’re aren’t out all day, and when we get home from church meal planning is the last thing we want to do. I like freshly because it lets you choose your meals based on low calorie, low carb, vegetarian, gluten free, etc. They have several options for each category. What we don’t necessarily like is the menu is always the same. They might have a new meal every few weeks. But we’ve found several that we like and rotate those and it’s fine. It’s so nice to get home after soccer practice or a baseball game late and not have to cook.

I use this company on and off though out the year
LINK /

Seems a little expensive at first but if you really run the numbers it really adds nothing to monthly cost.
The meals do come frozen, but the are good tasting and the Marcos are on point. I like that they change every week and no prep time or cleaning at the house.

let me know if you have any questions
