My wireless router/modem combo (Arris BGW210-700) apparently has the USB ports disabled by AT&T, but it has ethernet ports that presumably work.

I just want to be able to set up an SSD for basic wireless file access among all my computers at home. No crazy capacity needed. Mostly for basic Word, Acrobat and Excel files (but sometimes large photoshop files and some video). But speed and reliability are key, as this is for my work.

I also want to be able to access it remotely to grab a file here and there.

Should I keep the router I have and do something like this NAS DiskStation (seems unnecessarily pricey and bulky for these days and my needs): LINK

or get a new router (which I assume I can run off the ethernet on the current piece of shite, but will that split bandwidth w built-in router?) w USB 3.0 and just get a good simple small SSD (probably 2TB). This seems the best way to go--if so, which router do you recommend? Netgear has basic one w 3.0 ports for as little as $79 w Amazon coupon. There are a lot with USB 3.0 for under $100.

I'm an idiot with this stuff. I've been just using google drive and dropbox, but i want a closed private system.

I piggy backed my old router off of it and use its ports. I looked at a NAS but this works for the little bit I use it for.

whats a home cloud network?

you want to attach a NAS? i would just go to walmart and find a clearance router and put it in AP mode and you have usbs.

i was being sarcastic. Cloud is just a gay name made up by corporations and made even gayer when apple figs would refer to it as "The Cloud". Just as stupid as airports.

for you to be able to access it off of your LAN you need a ftp program or something similar. I think so routers can do this natively but im not to familiar doing this as last time i tried to get my ftp set up i gave up cause the router wouldnt open the port(same router you have). But i got a new one and havent gone back to do it yet.
