When you have a head cold/congestion etc., do you workout? Do you think it lengthens the time you're sick when you workout while sick?

Nope, no use making me feel even worse than I already do being sick.

If I could go and do warmup and lifting, but skip the cardio, I would. Then again, I don't want to spread crud to and all over the gym.

I do not. I feel that working out when sick prolongs my illness and I lose more ground in the long run. I just got over an infection in my foot and had to take a full week off from the gym. I could have done upper body, but wanted to get back to 100% ASAP.

Depends

Just got to listen to my body, if I’m full on sick no way

But if I know I can fight it off I just run or use light weight. Keep my CNS fresh

Yes. If it's scheduled I do it. (Not flu sick though)

Yup. It clears my sinuses for at least a few hours. As long as I’m not vomitting or have the full blown flu, I work out.

In the head, get out of bed. In the chest, gets some rest. Also if I'm going to crap my pants, get some rest.

I don't. It's ok to not work out when you are sick, contrary to popular belief.

Pretty much this. From WebMD::

quote:

"A neck check is a way to determine your level of activity during a respiratory illness," adds Neil Schachter, MD, medical director of respiratory care at Mount Sinai Medical Center in New York. "If your symptoms are above the neck, including a sore throat, nasal congestion, sneezing, and tearing eyes, then it's OK to exercise," he says. "If your symptoms are below the neck, such as coughing, body aches, fever, and fatigue, then it's time to hang up the running shoes until these symptoms subside."

Had the end of a cold/cough yesterday, went to lift this am

Didn't have full strength, so only did 3 sets instead of 5 on my lifts, and moved the weight down a bit. Really I just wanted to get back in the gym with all the crap eating related to the SB

Love getting in a good swim when I have a cold. No better way to clear everything out.

I’ve been battling a cold for about two weeks now and it has been exhausting trying to lift weights or even light cardio. Still not at full strength which is frustrating. I’m hoping I’ll just snap out of it here soon, but it’s weird to see how much it’s affected my cardio and strength even though the headaches and nausea symptoms have been gone for a week.

If you are contagious, stay away from the gym.

We had the flu run through ours last winter. It seemed like everyone got sick over the course of two weeks, all because someone worked out while they were sick.
