What Download Speed Do You Really Need?

I have Cox right now and looking at AT&T Fiber. My download speed on Cox currently test at 22-27 Mbps for download and works fine for streaming on 3-4 devices. Do you really need download speeds of 100, 150, 300, 1,000 for streaming or is this just a marketing gimmick?

It's pretty nice that I can download a 4k movie in a minute or so

Won't do much for streaming. It's great if you're frequently downloading/uploading large files, though.
You don't benefit from the excess amount of bandwidth you pay for for streaming, assuming your videos/songs never buffer or default to a lower quality.

Really depends on what you are doing. Just streaming, you definitely don't need gig lines

I’d allocate 10MBPS per stream (this would be the worst case scenario-you could probably get away with less) for streaming HD. Unless you are downloading giant files constantly, you’ll probably notice little difference. I’ve had 25, 50, and 150 over the years and have never noticed a difference. It’s just 2 of us living here though.

Several of us at work have Comcast 150/5 plans and I'm not hearing any complaints. The complaining got better once we went above 50.

Depends on what you're using it for. I sometimes work from home using large data sets and my 400 Mbps connection is great for that. When I'm not doing that I can stream multiple football games at once, which is nice.
But most people don't need more than 10 Mbps or so per user in the household.

This.
For your average home people are overpaying. If you stream 4k a lot, factor about 12-15Mb per TV (assuming multiple streamers all at once). Assume 7Mb for 1080p
Personally I pay for 300Mbps, but I primarily work from home and transfer files quite often

I'll say this, in my house there are 6 people.
We have the following.
4 phones
3 iPads
4 Xboxes
Gaming laptop
2 rokus
The phones are always brinyg used and I don't think the Xboxes ever go off and neither does the laptop. iPads come and go.
We have 18mbps and very very very rarely do we have any issues
