I'm moving into a new house with a large den. I've had a wall wired for big TV. I have no idea what the best one would be.

The room is probably 400 square feet. The wall is large enough to fit anything. Present budget is up to 5k, but I would go higher if it something worth paying for.

That's the question: What is worth paying for? OLED? QLED? Is bigger always better?

Any thoughts appreciated.

what do you want most from your TV? what are you going to watch? does the room have a lot of outside/bright light or is it dark? Do you care about viewing angles?

If you haven't really put much thought into this then it really doesn't matter and just find the largest TV you can as you won't notice the differences.

For just the TV? That’s way more than enough

And like another poster said, the stuff you are gonna be watching and the amount of windows/outside light coming in the room are important

You can get a 75in Sony X900f for $2800 which is a fantastic TV.

For that money you could also get a short throw laser projector and screen and have a 100-120inch picture

i'd set the tv budget a $3k, then spend the other $2k on a wireless surround sound kit. maybe Sonos 5:1 kit or a better suggestion.

as sweet as it would be to boast to the neighbors and your baws about a $5k TV, in the long run, you'll get more life from the surround sound system. Because you'll be replacing the TV in 4-5 years anyhow.

Quantum dots are real but they obviously market it that way because OLED is such a buzz word.

The one thing i always tell people getting a new TV is, no one has ever uttered the words "i wish my tv was smaller".

That being said, if it's me I'd split that budget 2k for tv, 3k for sound. You should consider getting a traditional setup. You'll have wires but get much better performance. Something like this would kick arse and not be overly obtrusive.

Drop a grand to 1500 on a nice avr and that's a hell of a setup. Also with new receivers you can control them wirelessly or with your voice to some degree, so a lot of the same functionality.

Buy a cheaper TV like a Vizio or TCL not that much different from the super expensive stuff

Anyone who has 5k to spend should avoid Vizio and TCL. I get what you're saying about the different not being huge, but if you're gonna drop that kind of coin you want whatever incrementally better performance the other brands provide.

Also, I think he still should consider a wired surround setup. Better speakers, same/similar functionality, less expensive.
