In this case I think he should be taken at his word that he is retiring b/c of his wife's illness.

Maybe that's naive but it would seem strange for Liberty to decide now is the time to force him out. 6-6 in an FCS to FBS transitional year doesn't feel like something worth firing the HC over.

He definitely was not forced out. Liberty has exceeded all expectations with their football program's transition to FBS.
