Chevy truck issue

Just wondering if anybody else has come across this issue.
The last three times I have filled up with gas, when I go to start it turns over constantly without starting. Once you stop it and do it again it starts but runs rough for about 10 seconds. Then it’s fine.

Did some googling. Believe it has something to do with fuel solenoid

I had that issue with my 2012 Tundra. Turns out it was the gas cap. My 2018 chevy doesnt have a gas cap, not sure if the 2016 does or not.

How low are you letting your tank get before you fill up?

do you top off the tank when you fill up? if so, you've gotten fuel into the purge valve. I've had the same issue on both my 2006 trailblazer and the wife's 2011 acadia. Both in the 100k mile range. It's a $30-40 part and less than an hour of your time.

Seriously? That’s terrible for your vehicle. It’s going to be the solenoid but that is caused from letting your tank gets low.
For a rule of thumb, it’s best to always fill up before you’re under a quarter tank.

beyond the fuel gauge reading the fuel level, how does the engine know if the tank is low? it either has fuel or it doesn't. Letting it run out, I could see that being bad as it would run rough when it sputters. But taking it down to 2-3 gallons, nah that's not bothering anything.

Running it down really low can, over a long period of time, cause the fuel pump motor to burn up prematurely. It's cooled by fuel in the tank. Most new vehicles have the ECM manage load on the pump and will read E with 1.5-2 gallons left which is plenty to cool the pump. It's not a bad idea to fill up before it gets too low but it's not the concern it was 15-20 years ago with metal fuel tanks and mechanical pumps.

Your gas tank sweats moisture.
If your tank is low, it is sweating to the inside. If your tank is full, it sweats to the outside, especially in cooler weather.
If you are letting your fuel tank stay low, you are getting a lot of water into your fuel system.
They don't teach this stuff in school anymore?

Could be the purge valve or the solenoid.
Don’t let it go till the light comes on and don’t keep pumping gas after the auto cut off.
If you repair or eliminate the 2 above as the problem you may have a fuel pump going bad.

If you can’t get it to start try whacking the fuel tank with a mallet or your hand and then try. For some reason this will wake your fuel pump up. I did this once every 3-4 months on mine for about 2 years before I finallly fixed it.

V8 or v6? Sounds like a stuck open purge solenoid, go get it scanned to see if it has a p0496 stored, I've changed a shite pile of them here lately.

This is a really easy fix. Just leave the Chebby running while refueling.
