Also I don’t really understand how this is supposed to help pace of play.

Pitchers are less incentivized to pitch to contact without the defensive advantage

Hitters aren’t suddenly going to stop hitting home runs and adopting an all fields approach. If it was that easy they would be doing it now and exploiting the shift

Neutralizing what the defense can do will likely lead to more runs, which makes games longer

that is a GREAT picture.

the comish needs to STFU and let the managers handle the on field playing. as long as they have 8 guys out there why care where they play?

I hate extreme shifts but if you are a MLB hitter and you can't hit it in those extreme holes, you have no complaint.

I think it’s a great idea...
Simple solution...at least 2 infielders on each side of the pitcher and they cant be standing on the outfield grass...

There was an article a few months ago that basically said the guys who get the shift put on aren’t paid to go the other way and get a hit. Most of these guys are paid to hit doubles and home runs getting in many teams eyes getting to first with out producing and RBI isn’t worth much.

Let’s get rid of the curve ball next.

The defense should be allowed to play wherever they want to. This is dumb.

I don’t really care one way or the other. I do agree if hitters would learn to hit the ball the other way it shouldn’t matter.

This.

It’s not even about playing the game. Read about the great hitters of the game. Hitting a baseball is one of the hardest things to do in sport. You have just a fraction of time to deduce speed, pitch type, and location. And now, you expect them to just flip it to the opposite field like it’s so simple?

The greatest hitters will tell about what a challenge this is.

Laying down a bunt is a more practical approach.

How about the hitters learn to not pull. That’s ridiculous. Go oppo and this is no longer an issue

I hate shifts, but this is stupid. Hitters need to adjust.

Spoken as if the high school baseball team makes you an expert.

Creating a rule is the dumb solution here.

Seems to me putting an end to or limiting driving in Latin America in the off season might be a better focus.

This is fricking awful. How about the hitters learn how to bunt or go the other way instead of launch angles and striking out all the time. The shift would vanish immediately if the hitters adapted

Do you understand how difficult it is to make solid contact while going the other way on a high 90s fastball busting inside
