Did they run the ball well those years? Outside of Watson scrambling?

LSU fans have come to believe that you have to have a running QB to beat Bama, but if you go look at the stats of the teams that have beat them the last few years, that’s not completely true. Bro and Kelly never ran, and if I remember correctly, Watson didn’t do shite running the ball either.

Watson had 73 yds rushing the first game and 43 yds the second. Slung the hell out of the ball in both.

He did more damage scrambling and buying himself time to throw. He hurt us much more that way than actually taking off and running. And when he did run it was often for 5-6 yards on a 3rd and 4.

Jalen being like 1/13 on 3rd downs and Alabama's defense playing 99 plays killed Alabama at the end. Clemson didn't have some amazing offensive performance until the very end of the game when Alabama's defense was dead.

Has Bama had a legit loss under Saban? They seem to always beat themselves.

Watson definitely had a knack for evading pressure (still does) to cover for the team's biggest weakness in those games.

Hyatt should go in the top 3 rounds this year, but that has been the area of greatest weakness on the recruiting trail under Dabo. I expect John Simpson to get drafted in the later rounds next year, and possibly Cervenka.

RT will get exposed if we play Bama.

They also had no OL players drafted in 2016 and 2017, years where they moved the ball at will against Alabama.

Clemson was rendered incompetent against Alabama last season. BARELY could move the football.

That's because Kelly Bryant was a mediocre QB behind a really great team. Trevor Lawrence is more of what they are accustomed to as a passer.

Even losing that DL, they are going to be blowing out teams left and right next year.

ETA: They averaged 2.2 ypc in 2017 and that's taking into account Watson scrambling. He's averaged 2 ypc.

Just to let people know, he's talking about the single game not the entire year. Even with that said, Bama allowed one QB to post 460 total yards and 4 TDs.

Lol. Clemson averaged 81 plays, 504 yards, and 39 ppg that year. Clemson posted 91 plays, 511 yards, and 35 points vs Bama. They treated you like everybody else. If they couldn't run on you, they passed all over you.

The funny part is you believing it was your defense being tired that led to that. How about the fact that both Bama and Clemson kept the point totals within 10 points most of the game?

Bama's supposedly got this amazing depth, yet were "tired" at the end of a game that was evenly matched throughout? Clemson held the ball 17 minutes in the second half which is only a 4 minute difference in TOP.
