Honestly, if we're talking objectively "great" movies..it has to be De Niro. People are talking about acting, the last 10 years, etc. But if we're strictly talking great films, De Niro probably has the two best films on anyone's list - Deer Hunter and Raging Bull. Probably Goodfellas too. DiCaprio has the highest concentration of great films, but Hanks is probably second just due to sheer catalog. I'm just not, generally, a Hanks fan, mostly due to the last 10 or so years. His performances have been solid, but overall the subject matter has been so boring. I can't get excited about any of his films.
Tom Cruise's catalog is underrated, but he also simply doesn't have enough "great" films to qualify.
I'd take it another direction: If you put the lists on a wall and said throw a dart on one to watch a film, who's list would you throw a dart at?
Mine: Probably Tom Cruise. He has a wide range of films, he's super charismatic, and most of his films are incredibly rewatchable. Second would be Eastwood because there's like a 70% chance I'm hitting a western, and I can always watch a western.

That's not the answer...at all. I don't care if you are a film snob or not. The question was "who has the greatest film portfolio" and "if you could only watch movies from one actor, who would you pick?"
Yes, he won an oscar for playing Lincoln, but that's not a movie I'll ever watch again.

Even though his films have been really shite in recent years, I've always thought Robert De Niro had the greatest filmography of any actor ever. The sheer quantity of great films he's been in is staggering. He's been in Mean Streets, Godfather Part II, Taxi Driver, Deer Hunter, Raging Bull, King of Comedy, Once Upon a Time in America, Brazil, The Mission, The Untouchables, Goodfellas, Casino, Heat, and Jackie Brown. De Niro's been in so many great films because he's willing to do anything. He spent four months in Italy to learn how to speak in Sicilian in the Godfather Part II. He gained sixty pounds to play Jake LaMotta in Raging Bull. He's willing to take a back seat and take supporting roles in films like Brazil and Jackie Brown. He went down to the South American jungles to film The Mission. De Niro didn't care about the requirements of the role or how glamorous it was. He just cared about being in great films and his filmography clearly reflects that. It's the best in cinema history.

As for DeNiro's late career work... I simply don't count it against him. He's a past his prime guy taking a victory lap and now cashing big checks and doing stuff for funsies. He's earned a late life cushy gig.
He still puts forth full effort in all of his movies, but he's not tackling the same level of material. Which is okay. And honestly, he's not mailing it in like Pacino has been. He's just doing Bad Grandpa because he thinks it's funny.

Agreed. And I generally like him in some of those roles, like Meet the Parents.

Right off hand I can think of over a dozen other actors with much better list of works than the OP list. Not even mentioned are the two that have appeared in by far the most blockbusters movies, Samuel L Jackson and Anthony Hopkins.
Maybe 10 years ago I'd thought Cruise, Pitt, Damon, and DiCaprio would have become more prolific but I'd have to say even Tom Hardy has taken over with the most great films I'd watch over and over in the past decade. Guys still on the way up, Jeremy Renner, Vinnie Jones, James Franco, even older like Gary Oldman, Christian Bale, Colin Farrel, James McAvoy are starting to take over and have as many if not more than the OP actor choices. Plus at least dozen more actors in the bigger picture of the more modern movies.. I like the actors in the OP but way too many with better lists of films.
