In May 2017, Harvey Gulf took out a full-page ad in the Wall Street Journal urging Trump to implement the proposal.

“Mr. President, We are American. We hire American. We buy American,” Shane Guidry, Harvey Gulf’s chairman and chief executive officer said in the ad, which is displayed on the company’s website.

“In keeping with your campaign promises, please support our industry like you have done with Carrier, Ford and other U.S. companies. Let us help you make America great again!”

Days after the ad ran, the U.S. Customs and Border Protection withdrew the Obama proposal. The U.S. energy industry, which U.S. President Donald Trump pledged to support, had lobbied the agency to keep the waivers.

Guidry was described by the Louisiana-based Advocate newspaper as one of the biggest donors in the state to Republican candidates. Affiliates of Harvey Gulf contributed $500,000 to the inauguration of U.S. President Donald Trump last year, according to Opensecrets.org, a website that tracks disclosures about political donations.

Place all the names that were heavily invested in deepwater on a board and throw darts at it, they will all be taking a turn as that market is DOA for a long time in US waters.

Always a fine line between protectionism and lower cost.

Welp. At least they have a ton of nice boats to look at. Too bad they could never get them chartered

Chouest doesn’t have as many bank notes to pay back on assets like Harvey did and government contracts also help. He wouldn’t be buying up other companies like he is now if he’s hemorrhaging money.

Yeah it doesn’t hurt as bad when you build all your own boats and owe yourself money.

Chouest may also be picking up a new government contract soon from the coast guard. USCG only has one icebreaker vessel and it's a piece of shite. Of course ECO has a brand new icebreaker class tug that the coast guard wants to use until they can get money to build a new one

I didn't catch the name of the person holding a gun to Guidry's head. Careful when you leave a puppy at someone's doorstep. They might not care for dogs.

"This [norm of reciprocity] is so powerful, it allows the initial giver to ask for something in return for what was given rather than having to wait for a voluntary reciprocal act."

"The norm of reciprocity is usually internalised."

Also the one who, through Harvey Gulf, was buying marked-up supplies from a flow-thru company owned by Newell Normand and Craig Taffaro. Their company, CTNN, bought supplies from Pelican Marine, once owned by Billy Nungesser, marked them up 10%, and sold to Harvey Gulf. Taffaro got greedy with expenses related to this business, and the feds dinked him: he was recently convicted on 12 tax related charges. Story here: LINK

Acorns/Oak Tree

"Deputies said that to make matters worse, the 22-year-old Guidry threatened to call his father as well as one of his father's associates, former Jefferson Parish Sheriff Newell Normand, in an effort to get the cops fired."

Might I add.... Shane's daddy, Robert "Bobby" Guidry was Certified TPT.

"In 1998, Bobby Guidry pleaded guilty to paying $1.4 million to Edwards and two others to win the license. He was a star witness at the trial in 2000 when the former governor was found guilty of racketeering, extortion, money laundering, mail fraud and wire fraud; he testified that he often left the governor and his son cash bundles of $100,000 in unlikely places, including Dumpsters."
