While it almost certainly won’t be with the Saints, I was told that Nick Fairley wants to continue playing football.

I don't think his will to play was ever in question. It was more our doctors and other specialists who said he shouldn't play.

So he figures he keeps our money plus whatever a new team gives him? New math?

title is misleading. All accounts have been that he wanted to play and the team doctors blocked him. That implies that if he can find a team who will let him play, he can play.

This is why I supported letting him make the decision. This isn’t the type of thing that heals. If he wants to play... why stop him.

As long as he signs a waiver absolving the Saints from blame if something happens.

I just can’t figure out why If a guy wants to risk his life to play football let him. Sign any kind of waiver that state if you die or get injured as a result it’s not on us basically. It’s his choice

Because no team wants the PR nightmare that will ensue if he dies on the field from complications with his heart.

You think, "he chose to play knowing it could happen, he assumes all the risk." Well that's fine and dandy when nothing happens. But as soon as he would collapse on the field and pass, the media would run with the "You should should have stopped him and its the Saints fault for his passing" narrative. Too toxic.

If he can somehow convince a team he is fine, let him play. The Saints obviously didn't see the reward/outcome being higher than the risk, therefore they restricted him from playing and cut him.

Saints should be able to sue this dick head

“The New Orleans Advocate reports free agent DT Nick Fairley (heart) wants to continue his career.
Per reporter Nick Underhill, it "almost certainly" won't be with the Saints. The Saints released Fairley early last month. Fairley evidently could not pass a physical in New Orleans but it's possible someone else will take a chance. Fairley remained effective before his heart issues cropped up.”

This is a futile attempt to hold on to his money. I know for a fact that he knows he cannot play. Unless something drastic has changed, his career is over.
