About the City Edition Jerseys
Posted by htran90 on 1/30/18 at 9:22 am20
Not sure if its been explained, but when they first came out, people wondered why our numbers were staggered while every other team's was straight.
Found out from a nike worker who is the new head designer for materials in Portland since he was in town this weekend (his team actually took over for the original team after the initial jersey ripping incident earlier this year).
Each jersey has a unique thing to represent the city the team is in and since we were once upon the New Orleans Jazz, the numbers are staggered like music notes.
That's all, thought it was interesting. I thought it was because we were drunk fools.

Nike included their official explanation in the press release when the uniforms were debuted:
quote:
"Bold colors represent power, faith and justice, and 'dancing' numbers reproduce the city's energy," Nike said in a release. "The neckline takes inspiration from classic Carnival ducal decoration. These uniforms are only worn during the Carnival season."

They definitely should have said that instead of calling them dancing numbers. Dancing numbers makes me think

I was really disappointed with the city edition jerseys. Rehashing the Mardi Gras jersey and making the numbers "dance" is lame as hell.

Nice but the musical note team plays in Utah. Let them look stupid instead.
