Anyone here read any of them? I loved the Netflix series so asked for the books for Christmas, did I mess up?

You did not mess up.

I’ve been pumping them here every chance I get. They’re different from the show but you will recognize some plots that were included in the show.

The biggest, and best, difference to me is that the longmire in the books is a more likable character than in the show. In my opinion.

There are quite a few differences which sorta make it really different than the show, so the show won’t ruin the books for you.

It’s a great series. Underrated if you ask me.

For whatever reason, I avoided the series on A&E although it looked intriguing from the outset. Got a Firestick for my birthday, and we started last weekend, Season one up to Episdoe five.

Wanting to get the books, too.

Thanks. I completely agree that it was underrated. One of the very best Netflix series I have watched.

I would say no, but I haven't seen the end of the tv series. And the book series is still ongoing.

The show is totally different from the books. Walt's wife is barely mentioned in the books at this point, like 13-14 books in. There's an arc that spans the last several books that has his daughter in danger. Plus the individual mysteries each book tackles.

Honestly, I'd say the book series and tv series are really their own thing. The characters have the same names and jobs, but that's basically it.

I've read all the books and can tell you they are a very good read. Craig Johnson is right up there with Robert Crais and Michael Connelly as a writer. All three of these guys have characters that you come to care for.

Just a bump now that I have finished the first book, The Cold Dish.

There are definitely differences between the Netflix series and the book universes. But not bad.

The book was tremendously easy to read - almost to the point where I was not really engaged in reading it up until the last 50 pages or so. Then Craig Johnson pulls out a bat and smacked me across the face with it. He basically lulled me into this easygoing style of his writing with the first 80% of the book then just detonates with some heavy stuff for Walt in the big climax.

I really enjoyed this one and look forward to the next. Thanks to all of you that recommended it to me.
