re: LOTR thoughts: why is Frodo portrayed as some hero?Posted by TheTideMustRoll on 1/3/18 at 4:06 pm to StrongBackWeakMind
Oh yes, he is clearly just trolling. But my nerddom for all things Middle Earth compels me to reply to him, even though I know I shouldn't. In a sense, I am Frodo, OP is the Ring, and here I stand at the Cracks of Doom, arguing with him instead of just letting him fall into the flames.

Frodo is the mediocre running back
Sam is the all american full back
RBs get all the glory, no matter what
Sam is the all american full back
RBs get all the glory, no matter what

When OP brushes off the soul crushing duty of bearing the ring across unknown, hostile territory to the doorstep of the most powerful individual in Middle Earth, all the while being hounded by wraiths and other murderous shite, and says "yeah but what else has he done", I tend to think we're dealing with a troll.
Sam volunteered for the same journey.

I can dig this analogy. I’m glad someone recognizes it

quote:Yes. Yes it does. You don't see that?
So? Does it make my point that Sam was the real hero any less valid?

Sam did have possession of the ring and he gave it back. Regardless it’s a moot point. Ring isn’t destroyed without Sam. And imo Frodo needed Sam more than Sam needed Frodo
This is like saying the most important part of a car invented is the tires because the rest of the car cant drive without the tires.
Completely ignoring the internal combustion engine.
This whole thread HAS to be a troll

I like your point. Did smeagul have a fat Sam? Never talks about it.
Frodo wasn't going to do it without Sam. He was lucky to have him. I'm sure that whole Goonies experience helped him prepare mentally

quote:a) No one has argued that Sam isn't a hero. Nice strawman.
Sam volunteered for the same journey.
b) Aren't you forgetting something? Maybe something that makes Frodo's journey a shite ton more difficult than Sam's?
