In hunting and fishing, we also tend to remember the highlights and forget about all the days where success was limited or nonexistent

hear the same story from locals. And they all think it's an original story to their dam.

Sounds like the "water-skiing and fell off into a mass of mating water moccasins" story. Seems like there's that story for every recreational lake in the South.

Also I wonder about the actual recorded deaths from snakebites. I know it was common back in the day when someone committed suicide for their family to just say "killed by a snakebite".

Some of these leave a lot to the imagination.

George Yancy, 35, male May 9, 2010 Rattlesnake (probably western diamondback, but possibly timber) Yancy was bitten while pulling up his pants in Smithville, Texas.

I do know the family of the last recorded person in LA to die from a rabies from a wild animal bite....... and it was a skunk that bit him...

Give me the machete over a pistol every time.
Choice #1 = pistol loaded w/ snake shot.

Some of the stories in Marsh Masters make me sad. Like limits before 8am for specs in the Industrial Canal, and 5-7lb specs being the norm.

As a kid, we used to fish right under the old Chef bridge. Not the one they have now. At night, we would catch 3-4 hundred nice trout a night and take them right there to Schwegmann Store the next morning and sell them there.

Used to shrimp in the IC too. Sea Brooke was a hot spot when the tide was dropping. Was a bitch due to tugboats too along with floating piliings that would wipe out a wing net and try to sink you.

My Dad did market duck hunting with a punt gun mounted in his pirogue. Hell, when I started duck hunting, 10 birds were nothing. Would burn off 3-4 boxes of shells each trip.
