Google FI
Posted by anewguy on 1/3/18 at 8:36 am00
I found an old thread where people had gotten google fi. How was it in the Baton Rouge area? Does it work well in outside of metro areas?
Just ran across it last night and would save me a log of money so highly curious about it.

Can't speak to coverage in BR, but will say that outside major metro areas you are on a 3G signal a LOT. If that's a big deal to you, or if you use more than 2-3 GB of data per month, it's probably not for you.
I've also seen a lot of complaints that calls are dropped when it tries switching from a cell signal to a Wifi signal, but I've never experienced that in almost 2 years.

It's good solid 4G in the Metro area. When I'm heading to New Orleans, it usually drops for a few minutes over the Spillway. So, a good ways out there.
I've experience the dropped call thing when I'm leaving work and it switches from the Wifi to data, but it doesn't happen every time and I'm rarely on the phone anyway. Totally worth the savings to deal with the minor headaches.
I'm a light data user though. 2 GB per month max. If you go over that, it's usefulness drops significantly.

Thanks for the replies! I hardly ever connect to wifi and use around 4-5 gigs a month.
