Is this true? I, for one, was excited to see LSU get a 4 star running back from Alabama’s backyard.

I saw it so much on this board I assumed it was rumor only that was started when it became clear we weren't going to sign him. Wheat from chaff problem.

I think Jimmy nailed it, we can't have grade risks at all this year. Probably every year after that. It is one of the overall benefits to CFB that some (whitefoot comes to mind) have identified as an outcome of the new rules. Fewer schools are going to take that risk, recruits have to get their house in order if they are going to pick and choose.

Then you haven't been paying attention very closely. There have been people saying he's a grade risk for several weeks now. I didn't know how credible they were, but in many of the discussions about Joiner someone would post that grades could be an issue. Check those Pooka threads from before Christmas. I'm sure there were a couple of mentions in those.

This is the first credible report though. I'll give you that.

The only scary situation to me is Surtain and his coming Bama official.

Yeah it'll be hard for him to hold off Saban begging for a commitment while seeing all those rings in his office with Minkah being a top 5 pick in the draft this year. But I think LSU is where Surtain wants to be. Him and Corey Raymond are super close and Surtain has a lot of family in Louisiana. I don't think Surtain is undecided whatsoever and he will be cool as a cucumber coming NSD when he announces LSU.

They should ask him to leave his phone on while in Sabans office (where only 5*'s go). Text him every 5 min. If he doesn't turn it off, he's ours.

Bama is putting on the press for him. I won't like it's making me nervous.

I don’t remember if I mentioned grades but I posted on the day before the early signing period (12/19) that LSU had backed off and we would not sign him.

So, James Smith says he is an academic risk, now it’s a convenient excuse? An excuse for whom?

Seriously, what the frick?

It’s like you wanna be mad about something, or blame someone for something, but you don’t have any grounds to stand on, so you just say this

It would explain all the CBs to Ole Miss. one of the only schools that can afford to take the risk and want him as a RB.

I did not think this was a grades issue. I think it has to do with the numbers. LSU took two RB's in the early period and now only have 4 spots left with bigger fish left.

One or more people said multiple times over the last month that grades might be an issue. Now Jimmy Smith is also saying that, so it's possibly true.

I do agree with you about the numbers thing. I wouldn't have taken him in our last four over Goodrich, Surtain, Chase and Joseph
