Anyone making their own breakfast or post workout smoothies? Not looking for anything for strength training exactly although I'm sure some protein wouldn't hurt. Just something to have a more well rounded diet to also help recovery and give some energy to workouts (swimming/cycling/running). Currently burning about 5k calories a week from workouts (which will only increase over the next 5 months), so I'm always hungry and would rather put something good in my body instead of pigging out on pizza or something.

Currently been making below and it tastes pretty good:
-Whole milk plain yogurt
-Handful or two of spinach/kale Mixture
-Handful of baby carrots
-Handful of frozen blueberries
-Frozen banana
-Chia seeds
-Flax seeds
-Milk to thin out

Only been doing this about a week now and already need to get something fresh. It's hard for me to come up with stuff on my own since reading ingredients makes these sound disgusting. But after trying this, I'm shocked something with this much spinach, kale, and carrots can taste this good.

Switch the yogurt to full fat Fage Greek yogurt.

Best protein to sugar ratio for yogurt.

Here's mine I make every morning...

3/4 scoop Quest protein powder - I like their Vanilla Milkshake flavor
Almond milk
Full fat Greek yogurt
scoop of peanut butter
flax seeds

Loaded with protein, low in carbs, and keeps me full through lunch.

Blueberries, spinach, PB, banana, water, ginger root, hemp seeds (3 tbsp = 11 g of protein) is my go to and my favorite. The blueberries/Pb/ginger combo is delicious

I also like to do... chard/greens, cranberry juice, banana, apple, ginger root, chia/hemp seeds.

I find that changing the liquid helps you not get sick of the same old thing. I usually use water vs milk because it can be too heavy or too sweet (I use non-dairy) otherwise.

I’ve been adding frozen açaí packets to my smoothies lately that you can find at Trader Joe’s or Costco

I’m simple though and can drink a smoothie of: water spinach bananas, everyday and not get sick of it. They are just refreshing

how does the avocado affect the flavor? I don't love avocados, but if it's not a strong, overpowering flavor, I know it's good nutrition.

It doesn’t impact the flavor much, but it makes it thick, creamy, and velvety smooth. Good for satiety too.

If you eat a lot of avocados and are using them in your smoothies, you should know that you can freeze them. Stock up when they’re on sale, let them ripen.... then peel and remove pit.. store in freezer til you need.

Fun fact that someone told me a few years ago that has saved me many avocados

Here's my super caloric meal-replacement bulking smoothie recipe:

8 oz. Whole milk
1 Tbsp Peanut butter
1 scoop Protein powder
1/2 frozen avocado
1 frozen banana
1/4 cup oats
1 tsp ground flaxseed

Optional: replace milk with cold-brew coffee

I think I'm going to get a vitamix soon. I'm excited to try this stuff.

I usually just put in protein powder, unsweetened almond milk, a banana, a cup of mixed berries, and peanut butter.

ETA: and spinach. I'll try the frozen avocado next time.
