Finch - Rondo/Nelson Effect

I was looking at team stats and was a bit surprised to see that the Pels rank 2nd in the league in assists with 628, trailing only the Warriors. (We were 12th in the league last year). Our assist ratio has gone from 16th (17.2%) last year to 2nd this year (19.2%). We are also 5th in EFG% and TS% as a team after ranking 20th and 23rd last year.
It is often frustrating watching these guys slip into bad habits in games after seeing spurts of what we can do, but it is also easy to lose sight of the bigger picture: We now have a top 10 offense that is efficient and moves the ball more often than not.
We just really need to figure out how to shore up the defense.

I don't want to take credit away from Finch, it was clear they've been trying things differently all season long, but I really think Rondo is responsible for guys finally moving off ball. At least once a game you'll see him tell guys to start moving when they've stopped.

Teams are learning Cousins won't come out on shooters and Miller/Cunningham/Moore are slightly below average at best for defending SFs. I don't think there's much hope of defensive improvement before Hill returns.

I think a lot of credit goes to Rondo, he has been a revelation for this offense. I really hope we can keep Rondo even if we lose Boogie for whatever reason. I don't know how much credit Finch gets vs Rondo, but I do know adding those 2 has this team buying into what Gentry envisioned on offense much more than Gentry ever could get them to do so.

ONe thing I don't get is if we are going to suck at transition defense anyhow, why not focus on crashing the offensive glass and adding extra opportunities.

Happy, dialed in Rondo is still a very, very good player in this league. He's only one year removed from absolutely dominating an ECF team before getting injured.
I honestly thought based on the past couple of years that we would get this helter/skelter version, but he's been a true leader both on and off the court. He's easily the biggest offseason coup for us by a mile, with the resurgent Miller being a semi-close second. Having a 47.5% 3pt wing has been a godsend. Even the ones he's missing are in-and-out. You rarely see him brick one. It's quite a phenomenon.

Considering Boogie already gets in early foul trouble seemingly every game, not crashing the offensive boards may be a good thing.
