Anyone been?
Thoughts?
Looking at going with kids (6-13 years old) who haven’t skied before.

I've been. I wouldn't really call it skiing if you've been to Colorado/Utah/wyoming or somewhere, but it's not bad. It was mostly groomed artificial snow when I went. Kids will probably enjoy it though. I love that whole area regardless.

It’s hit or miss weather wise. You may be skiing in shorts and a T-shirt. There are many days in January and February that are very warm. Then the next week will be very cold. The snow is almost always machine made. Kids will probably have fun anyway.

I've skiied Cataloochee a few times. It can be icey which isn't great for beginners. It's got a few small hills though and a small bunny slope though and you can have plenty of fun learning. I suggest heading a bit further north to Snowshoe if you can.
