re: Good bye duck season...

I have never seen a storm not damage the feed no matter the tide.

Only silver lining I see so far is it's going to move fast and perhaps a help will be that the tide is already up so the wave action will be less on the submerged aquatics and maybe some will survive.

Normally going back 38 years (legnth of time I've hunted the coast) duck season is shot after a storm big or small. The saltwater kills the submerged aquatics and rolls it up and carries it away.

This leads to ducks coming down after a front and not staying and heading up to other places that aren't the coast....

My experience has been somewhat different in the Vermilion parish marshes, specifically the brackish marshes south of HWY 82. When Rita came through and completely turned the marsh over, we had an absolutely banner season. Same thing with Ike.

Now the freshwater marsh between 82 and White Lake that I had access to didn't have anything on it after Hurricanes.

What's the history of the blind? Was it leased last year? If so, why did the lease come available?

My experience in that area is that the further north you go from the ICW, the worse the duck hunting gets. This is somewhat of a generalization, as I'm sure there are some jam up spots going all the way up past I-10. But my experience has shown me that the stuff around Morse is typically not that good for ducks these days. I haven't goose hunted much in that area.

There's a reason that most of the high dollar leases and clubs are pretty close to the ICW.

But I hope y'all slaughter them in Morse this year.

Lease supposedly came available do to some members buying their own place...Now I do take all that the guy said with a grain of salt, as he is trying to fill spots to get money in his pocket or pay the farmer. The guy said that duck hunting is decent, not great, averaged about 8 birds per blind over the season. Of course at the price the lease was, I knew I was not going to get Oak grove duck numbers, but given the location and good rice crop I was thinking it was going to be decent.

But, unfortunately I hope that teal season was not a total prediction of duck season as I did not kill a single bird...

Only time will tell. I love smashing the ducks, but I also thoroughly enjoy just being out there.

Probably be a lot of brown ducks that hold more to the north than the last few years if the feed is gone down there. Last year we had almost no gray ducks in south Arkansas because they were all on the coast. Combination of drought up there during late summer and great marsh conditions. That might not be the case this year.
