My mom suggested this book to me, and I was a bit wary because sometimes her recommendations can be a bit syrupy or too light hearted. But my God, this book is depressing. I love a good feel-bad movie or book, and this hits the spot. Pretty much an unblinking view of our country in the event of a war that wipes out all technology in North America, and how quickly the civilization we take for granted can come crashing down in mere days. Contains some gut wrenching, brutal stuff kind of reminiscent of "The Road" by Cormac McCarthy with some of the plainly stated realities of what humans really are when the lights go out. Highly recommend this book. It's also the first in a trilogy that is about to wrap up.

Pretty interesting, straight-from-the-shoulder account. Shows how some good people would have to make some hard choices.

Damn good book. One Year Later is great as well. Im starting The Final Day next week. I added the audio versions for a long trip I was taking. Just a suggestion: if you have, say, a 7 hour drive and want a book to listen to - Stay The frick away from One Second After. I spent 2 weeks trying to figure out how I could get 450 miles back home on foot( I decided I would steal a bike from the Wal Mart down the road). ??????
