How's the fishing after a tropical storm or minor hurricane?
Posted by slackster on 10/5/17 at 2:42 pm00
Trying to get down to the Fourchon area next week and wanted to know how in-shore fishing may hold up after a storm like Nate. Anyone have any experience?

I go back to work off vacation Monday. From that point on fish will jumping into boats to the point of sinking until I go back on vacation.

Not sure about Fourchon but usually the water is muddy as shite for a while. Usually two weeks post storm it starts kicking off. Late Oct. probably going to be really good.

There is a 100 plus boat redfish tourney at Venice Marina next Friday and Saturday. Fun to observe, but there will be significant conjestion early and late each day.

I'm hoping that the in-shore stuff, particularly the marsh itself, will clean up in a reasonable amount of time. I guess we'll see.

Marsh in general is still in transition. Haven't gotten the cold fronts to push fish into the marsh. Muddy water isn't going to help. You can still find fish but not in the numbers you would normally associate with autumn fishing in the marsh.

Green trout in Venice has been good and just starting to be on fire. Some 3 and 4's caught last weekend. Hope ole Nate don't mess it up too bad.

Once caught a juvenile snapper in the marsh around Cocodrie after Gustav.

My Uncle has been catching Mangrove snapper off his dock in Cocodrie daily.

Usually pretty good especially if storm minnows show up.

Gonna be interesting to see how the Roseau cane holds up if the storm surge builds up.
