I can't speak for Verizon as I've never had it. Recently I drove to north central Kansas and back to south Louisiana. Went up through Arkansas and Missouri, came back through Oklahoma and Texas. I connected my kids iPad via my phone's hot spot where she streamed kids shows and movies while I was using Waze and streaming audio through Plex the whole time without a hitch.

Also, the ability to use the internet while being on the phone is a nice feature (that VZW doesn't offer).

I’m a longtime Verizon user and can confirm there was a time this was true. But I’m certain i’ve recently browsed the internet while on the phone.

Another observation up for debate:
I seem to recall during the Baton Rouge flooding that many AT&T users were very disappointed in the severe network disruption that occurred because other carriers, Verizon in particular, did not experience the same thing. Anecdotally, a large number of users converted to Verizon.

During the Houston Harvey flooding, the issue popped up again with identical observations.

My sample size is anecdotal and limited to a network of friends and neighbors. Did others experience the same thing?

Maybe it's time for a new phone... I've had Verizon for years and this is absolutely possible on LTE. Moto x pure user.

Verizon blows AT&T out the water. I enjoyed having service during the flood unlike AT&T users.

Agree. For the last few years I've been able to talk and surf the web on Verizon on iPhone

Also, Verizon has much broader coverage in rural areas. I was able to text and post to TD while climbing Mt Rainier. AT&T wouldn't work anywhere in the national park.

Just got back from Arizona and Utah desert areas and serval national parks and once again Verizon worked in areas at&t didn't.

Verizon seems to hold up better after storms too.

I cant imagine this being an iPhone issue as I could use data while on talking on my phone but not on my VZW iphone. Also, you can't send or receive imessages while on the the phone (data) unless you are also connected to wifi.

Maybe there is some feature I have switched off??
