Tuscaloosa Mayor Walt Maddox has made it official: He will be seeking the office of governor in 2018. The four-term mayor announced his decision Thursday morning via his campaign website, waltmaddox.com, and in an interview with The Tuscaloosa News. “I believe that this is an opportunity to truly transform Alabama,” said Maddox, 44. He will be seeking the Democratic nomination for the governor’s seat during next year’s primary on June 5. A number of candidates have announced similar intentions, including Sue Bell Cobb, the former chief justice of the Alabama Supreme Court. The general election will be Nov. 6, 2018.

Hope it comes down to him & Tommy Battle.

Going to be tough for Maddox to win against a Republican.

It would be tough for him to beat Battle even if Battle was a democrat.

Why waste your time when Kay Ivey will run away with the election?

You might want to pump the brakes there.

Issues I know of:
1. Health issues.
2. Alcohol

I think he has been good for Tuscaloosa, but I too think he will have a hard time beating a Republican.

Can you be a little more specific? Are you just talking about age?

Not yet. With age comes health issues. Not a front page story there.
