President Donald Trump's pardon of former Sheriff Joe Arpaio's conviction for disobeying a court order in an immigration case will stand after a judge on Wednesday rejected arguments that it would encourage government officials to flout similar judicial commands in the future.

U.S. District Judge Susan Bolton cited U.S. Supreme Court precedent in formally dismissing the criminal case against the former six-term sheriff of metro Phoenix known for his harsh treatment of inmates and immigration enforcement crackdowns.

She held off on ruling on Arpaio's request to throw out all orders in the case, including a blistering 14-page ruling in which the judge explained her original reasoning in finding that Arpaio was guilty of a crime.

"I have concluded the pardon is valid," Bolton said.

The hearing Wednesday came five weeks after Trump pardoned Arpaio's conviction for intentionally defying a 2011 court order to stop his traffic patrols that targeted immigrants.

Well that was nice of her, considering she had no other choice.

Anyone who supported fighting the pardon is basically outing themselves as just not even giving a flying frick about the the rule of law. I don't even particularly like the pardon power but it's there. You want to get rid of it? Constitutional Amendment. But this whole thing was a complete waste of fricking money

What else was she gonna do? Has any Presidential pardon in history ever been somehow been rejected?

Damned magnanimous of her to recognize the President's unfettered authority to pardon.

It's good to see that the judge let his order stand. The president does have the right to reduce sentences or pardon individuals convicted in federal court. I'm not sure why they thought a judge would counteract that. The Supreme Court would have upheld Trump anyway in the end.

This. The pardon power is there for a reason. It's purpose is rooted in the need for an extrajudicial challenge to an unjust conviction or sentence. It has often evolved into something else, but the pardon power is absolute for good reason.

I've finally rationalized in my mind that I can't do a damn thing about it.

Her validation of the pardon wasn't needed

The sore loser lefties sued President Trump regarding the pardon because they are going to sue President Trump every time he does something they disagree with even when they know they will lose the case in the end.

It exposes the fact that sore loser lefties are going to frick with President Trump BY ANY MEANS NECESSARY.

I don't think he should have made the pardon, but he clearly has the power to do it.

And if there is a limit to that power somewhere, this pardon seems far from that line.

Yeah I could see a lawsuit if A President pardoned a guy who was a mass murderer or something, but for contempt of court? LOL Come on , this was clearly nothing more than a nuisance suit against Trump from the get go.
