Heading to San Francisco

In about a month, I'm heading out to San Francisco for a work function from Monday-Thursday. I decided to take off Friday and fly my SO out there so we can have a short vacation until Sunday.
Where are the best places to stay? (Cannot afford Ritz, etc.) Best things to do? Best places to eat? Also, I'm assuming it's a little chilly in SF around this time?
Thanks for the tips.

It's chilly in SF around every time. Plan accordingly.
Last time I was there (a couple months ago) I stayed at the Intercontinental Mark Hopkins. Pretty central to everything and a decent hotel. A little older, but well maintained.

I did the same as you, last September, and made a short vacation out of it before a work trip. The weather was incredible at that time (as usual for SF). We stayed at the Holiday Inn Fisherman's Wharf. It's a cheesy touristy area, but the hotel was a great price and was fine enough for us.
We enjoyed walking around Sausalito and also walking the Land's End trail more than anything else. If you like good beer, definitely hit up Toronado. It's not fancy, but they have great beers, including Pliny on tap. Good prices too.

Tour of AT&T Park was awesome
Favorite thing my wife and I did was rent a bike and see the city. We biked the Golden Gate bridge and went to Sausalito. Amazing
One of my favorite pizzerias is in Northbeach. Tonys Pizza Napoletana. Cool vibe, nice bar, and some cool bars next to it for a drink before or after.

Jr and I went last year ( we travel around to the different baseball parks around the country)
We stayed downtown, I think that is considered downtown, not far from att park.
We went in July and had to wear lite coats
Saw all the tourist things, Alcatraz , walked across the Golden Gate Bridge , walked down China town and hung out at Piers.
Most everything is expensive (food especially).
The subway system is cheap and goes a lot of places. Rode the city buses a few times.
Att park is a must see, very cool ball park.
Oakland is a shite hole, atleast where we went, saw the As play one night.

Maybe...but the A's are way more fun to watch than the Giants.

A's games some much more fun to go to than the Giants. Everything is cheaper the crowd is more into the games, the only downside is the coliseum being in the ghetto. A new stadium would do wonders for the A's.
The East Bay has some solid spots, Piedmont, Berkley, and Tilden Park.

Everything is expensive. Lombard Street is the best area to stay imo. We were at a comfort inn on the corner I think.

Regarding these other fellas who say "it's a little chilly"...I went again in late July this year and froze my fricking arse off.
If it's 71 and sunny in the middle of San Fran (which is a small arse town), you can bank on it being 58 and Misty near the GG bridge with 40 mph gust, and you'd swear to God the sun didn't exist.

Look in to Hotel Vitale. Really nice smaller, contemporary hotel.
We've recently gotten some surprisingly good rates there.
Eat your asses off. You're in a great city to do so!

I was there for a couple days last month and it was hot as balls. Like over 100 degrees. The hottest day in history or something. It was crazy.
