Dandy Don points out something interesting. This may not be an easy win.

LSU enters the game as a 20-point favorite, but as you’ll see from my predictions below I’m expecting a closer contest. Why? Well, first because LSU is pretty banged up. Second, Troy has a history of giving the Tigers as much as they can handle. In the two programs’ only two meetings, LSU had to come-from-behind to avoid what would have been devastating losses. The first was in 2004 when Troy was leading the defending national champions late in the fourth quarter before a 30-yard touchdown pass with 2:18 remaining in the contest put LSU on top, 24-20. The second time was in 2008 (interesting that LSU was the defending national champion then too) when LSU pulled off what my late father, Dandy Don Long, called the “biggest come from behind win in school history.” Since so many of you enjoyed the flashback I posted last week of one of my father’s old posts, I’ve decided to share his recap of the 2008 win over Florida as today’s Friday Flashback. Hope you enjoy the step back in time.

We certainly didn't beat Florida in. '08.

Everyone already knows this

That's the equivalent of believing Miami of Ohio would beat LSU because that's what happened in 30 years ago.
I'm not saying it won't be close, but it shouldn't even with the injuries!

Seriously, his only reasoning for saying it would be close was that Troy has given LSU fits in the past.

Anyone who thinks a college football game almost 10 years ago will have any impact whatsoever on the game tmro should probably stop writing about college football.
If the game tmro is close it will be because of poor coaching and execution. It won't be because Troy played us close in 2008.

I think he has since corrected that. The link was to his Dad’s write up about the Troy win in 2008.

Just a bit of clarification as to why that matters. Our current HC Neal Brown, was the OC during the '08 game and the current Co-OC was a receivers' coach for that game. The program missed out on a defining moment with the 2nd half letdown. It will be a contested game, to be sure.

EXACTLY!
The logic used in the blog is just false. That said, that same IL-logic is used by professional sportswriters and commentators all too often.

By definition every game is contested. Will it be competitive is another story.
Regardless of who your OC and Co OC coaches are and what they did 10 years ago is NOT going to be a factor in this game or any other teams' games with similar circumstances and or storylines.
Will the game be close? maybe! Should it be? Nope.
Unfortunately the biggest chess piece on the board is Coach O and that gives every seemingly out manned team LSU plays a serious shot at a W!

Fair enough. As the narrative remains the same, I'll enjoy watching how the game unfolds.

MS State blew our doors off; I'm not assuming any easy wins.

I was at that game, hot and miserable. We nearly picked off Tebows pass that got tipped to Percy Harvin who went on for a huge gain or score. The yoked Florida fan next to me got all handsy and in my face because I said it was a horrible pass and Florida got lucky.
