PC users - where do you go to find and download new apps?

Every now and then I look for comparable apps that I use on my mac to install on my work pic. With my mac, it is pretty simple to remove crap software. We all know downloading the wrong hijacking or crapware on windows can cause all kinds of problems.
Any recommendations for sites that rate software - or simply trusted websites that have links to legit windows software?

Assuming you're on Windows 10, there's the Windows Store. Comes pre installed and everything.

Got it, but the Windows store doesn't have everything. Sometimes you need an app that may not be in the windows store. I remember CNET had a downloads sections that was a reliable source - but I have heard it is mostly ads and junk now. I just don't want my PC to get AIDS.

The whole post just shows how genius Apple marketing has been.
You are convinced that Windows is some incredibly fragile thing that you have to tiptoe around constantly.

Really? You're going to go with Mac vs. PC propaganda when Ransomware has been one of the biggest mainstream news headlines of the last month?

I seem to fix a windows PC on the regular here at the office for users clicking on the wrong websites and/or downloading what appears to be a legit app - turns out to be crapware/hijack software.

In the early 00's, CNET used to be awesome but it certainly has become overgrown with crap
It depends on what you're looking for as most of the apps I download have their own websites.
I recently installed IMGBurn and Rufus for building bootable USB images. Both had their own pages.

Don't act like there isn't ransomware out there that affects Macs, and we don't need to re-hash the whole bigger target thing.
The fact is if you do dumb shite with your computer, dumb shite will happen to your computer.
As far as the OP...

You will be far better off googling reviews and articles of best software or utilities from legit PC media sites, and then making sure you download the software straight from the publishers website.
There is a ton of useful software out there, and a ton of garbage. Just do your research.

I'm not, but he sounds like he's comfortable with his ability to find Mac software and not comfortable with his ability to find Windows software so he created this thread. If more people asked what he asked there'd be a lot fewer infections going around. My dad still semi regularly asks me "Is this email that looks like a phishing attack actually a phishing attack?" It's a stupid question, but I'd rather he ask me a stupid question than not ask and click a stupid link
