What's with the surge of Thai restaurants along highway 98 from Pensacola to Destin?

I've counted nearly ten of these restaurants along highway 98. Is Thai the new sushi restaurant? And, why so many in the panhandle?

Agreed. Wouldn't call it beach food though. So still suspicious

I've made the drive twice in the past month and noticed the same thing. Also, strangely enough, there are Asian massage parlors adjacent to the vast majority of the Thai restaurants.

But it is a nice change of pace when you live there or are staying for a week or more. My folks had a condo in Destin for about a dozen years, and we'd drive down about 8-10 times each summer. All the usual touristy seafood places get old. Sushi, Thai, heck even some good greasy Mexican place were where we'd go half the time.

I worked in destin for a summer and noticed that a lot of the locals are Asian.
