Spending a week in LA/San Diego this summer, and when looking up rental cars this company seems popular out there. Looks like they specialize in high end German cars at "affordable" prices. For example, a Chevy Traverse from Avis is $400/week, and Sixt has a Mercedes GLE for only $40 more.

Anybody have personal experience with them? Google/Tripadvisor/etc. reviews are all over the place, with some people loving it and some claiming it's a total scam operation.

Used them out of Phoenix for the National Championship last year. No complaints. Customer service was solid, and the car was in new car lot shape.

Check into the app called Turo. It's like Air BnB but for vehicles

I've used Sixt a couple of times on the West Coast with no really negative issues.

They were always the cheapest option I could find.

Once late at Sea-Tac they were slow (as in it took about thirty minutes to get me a car).

I was then jealous of the other rental agencies that let you just walk up to any car of the class which you reserved and drive away.

I rented a 328i with 300ish miles for $20 a day from them a couple weeks ago. I was in and out quickly, no pushy upsell attempts, car was clean and ready to go. I read all the bad reviews too but my experience was nothing but positive.

their prices are usually cheaper but the reviews have always scared me away.

They are more common outside the States but I rented with them in Detroit. It saved me a few bucks and the rental was alright. But don't join their loyalty program, no matter what you do (unless you enjoy being spammed to death). I requested multiple times to unsubscribe and the emails didn't slow down. Eventually I had to block their address.

I used them in France, very happy with the experience. Never used in the states though.
