I completely agree here. Yedlin's performance at the World Cup was great, but you can't gauge much from it. Another reason using Hazard as an example is bad is that Hazard wasn't really at his best throughout the entirety of the World Cup, outside of a few bright moments. Yedlin did a wonderful job, but he's going to have to develop his game. Overlap is wonderful, but you have to know when to defend. It's not his defending skills when on the man that is the problem. I'm just not sure his positioning is there to face the best in the world week in and out.

I do think with the right training and mindset, he could genuinely be a premier fullback. I just think we really need to let him work to that. It's nice to have out youth in demand, though. I just worry that Tottenham just wanted another American on the roster.

We have enough of a sample to know he has a high ceiling and that he's not just athletic.

That's good enough for me, and I don't really care that he had a bad day against New England before having really good days against Portugal, Germany, Belgium, and Bayern.

I think Tottenham is not ideal and wonder why he and his people don't think that's a bad spot for him.

I hope Spurs immediately loan Yedlin out to a Championship squad for the second half of this season.

I wish Lasso were still in charge there to properly nurture a fellow American.

Doubt that happens, the dude will need an offseason to get his mind and body right before trying to earn a spot with an EPL squad.

This is a very legitimate scenario that Craig Burley poses

Good news for Yedlin signing for Spurs but worrying they don't want him now. Planning for future is great but they do like to sack managers.

If Seattle does not go to the MLS Cup, Yedlin will have plenty of time to rest into the new year. He could easily take two months off before joining a Championship squad

The idea is that his small sample against Hazard, and in the World Cup in general, is an example of his potential. People get excited about potential. I don't think anyone is saying he's at that level consistently. Those performances are proof that he can be very good though.

I'm surprised no one has cashed in on his breakout performance with spokesman deals or endorsements. Nike should have him front and center as the new face of their US soccer advertising. Hes got the looks and the charisma to be a crossover draw.

But sending him across the pond next year will keep him out of the mainstream collective for another 4 years, so they better do it soon.

Eta: Omar is on Fruity Pebble boxes, so Yedlin should at least pull in Fruit Loops or Cocoa Puffs......

It's espn, and it's an opinion but I feel like it applies here. The notion that a purely defensive player is obsolete and having a defensive player that can contribute in the build up and on offense is the norm now. Honestly, if Yedlin becomes a mediocre defender along with his offensive capability, he is worth the investment.

I think this is a poor move by Yedlin, especially if he doesn't join them in January. Tottenham isn't great at developing players because of the massive inconsistency they have at manager. Before people point out Bale and Modric, both developed under the watch of Redknapp, who gave each meaningful playing time, though Modric was already an excellent player as his performance at Euro 2008 showed. Pochettino is a good manager but I have no faith in Levy to give him time.

The EPL probably offered the most money but it's the worst league for developing young players, especially at the top teams, where everything is scrutinized for better or worse.

Same its not like Pochettino is going to turn him into Luke Shaw and Yedlin is already behind Walker.

He will end up getting loaded to some side fighting off relegation or some mid table Championship side playing not so flashy football.

Italy would have been a better place. Teach him defensive discipline and defensive positional awareness.

I'm not a fan of this move AT ALL. How has Shea developed since going to Stoke? Spurs fans expect instant success. I don't see Yedlin playing or developing in the prem. What would be better is him staying in MLS for at least another season after this one, where he will have consistent playing time, before moving to a team in a better league at which he could contribute immediately. The last thing we need for one of our most promising young players is for him to rot on the bench during a period that is of upmost importance to his development.

Again, learning defensive positioning is mental and a feel during the course of play. The kid has tremendous athleticism which cannot be taught. I think the board is a bit critical of Yeldin.

Sorry, I'm a little late to the discussion, but my two cents.

It's hard for me to get too excited about Yedin just yet. Yedlin looks just like the past "new American Pele", in that they have one break out performance, and all of a sudden every news outlet is asking when is he going to Real. Klinsmann is dead on with assessment of media with young talent, and if I were him I would be worried to that one of the most promising young stars is about to hit the shite show that is Tottenham.

Don't dislike the Spurs, and not a Gooner, but I can't imagine a worst team I would want my up and cumming star player that still needs developing to be. I think every fan of USMNT should be worried about Yedlins future now, and hope his stint at Tottenham doesn't last long, or goes on loan.

He needs to develop as a RB. There seems to be a trend of players moving back and forth between the roles. It might be that teams are getting away from the traditional 4-4-2, but his limited technical abilities is more of a problem then his defensive miscues due to his recovery speed. If a player like Rafeal can play under SAF at Utd for so long, I'm very confident that some Champions League team will give him a shot, when he's more developed.

ETA: Not that I don't think Tottenham can't be a Champions League team. It's just that with the Spurs buying players has very little to do with team needs, and a lot to do with politics and shirt sales.

Spurs. Just Spurs.

Overall, I agree with you. Don't really see a spot for Yedlin. Hopefully we will loan him to a team that will start him.
