My dad thinks it's too boring, but my mom loves it.

GoT as a book first came out in 1996 when they were in their mid-40's.
I don't see why you would have an issue with this.
My wife's grandfather, almost 90 now, was a diehard Dexter fan during it's heyday.

Sorry, but I was kidding. I don't want to encourage her. The stupid show puts ideas in her head with lines like, "Why can't you just watch porn like a normal guy?" Then I get to field the question, "Spock, do you watch porn on your computer?"
