The Robert Meachem Plan, Part 2
Posted by blueslover on 1/6/14 at 6:30 pm00
Two sources said in the past week that Tampa Bay guard Carl Nicks is still dealing with pain in his foot in the aftermath of dealing with surgery and then a recurring bout with MRSA. As a result, there is some doubt about whether Nicks will be able to play next season or ever again. That may lead to the Buccaneers cutting the former high-priced free agent acquisition this offseason.
Nicks signed a five-year, $47.5 million contract in 2012, but was hurt after seven games. He had surgery on his foot after that, then suffered an infection early in training camp. Nicks eventually played in two games before the infection returned.
Nicks is due a base salary of $7 million this season. With the change in coach to Lovie Smith, there is a chance that Nicks could be viewed as far more expendable.
“Carl is trying to deal with the pain and play again, but we’ll see if he can get through it,” one of the sources said.

RM2 or the LeCharles Bentley Plan, maybe Nicks can play in a coupla yrs when Grubbs & Evans start costing $15-20million

On a low budget contract, come on down Carl Nicks.

It would be really nice if Drew restructured in the offseason.

Damn, feel bad for him. He was a big part of us winning a SB and I understood why he left ($$). I wanted to keep him over Evans but the numbers and timing didn't work. I hope he can play again, and if he's close to what he was before with us, would LOVE to have him back in black & gold.

And about 10 other guys as well. Not just Brees who played cheap as hell for YEARS in winning the Saints their 1st super bowl. Carry on.

Could jhari or grubs play center?

It only takes one year to win the Super Bowl.

don't know if it is remotely possible but like the thinking
With Evans & Grubbs combined cap hit moving up to $20mil I'd pull the "doncha think we're paying you enough toplay center" card if necessary

Wtf? You all seriously want him back? He can't stay healthy and was in a locker room with MRSA. No thank you. Should have chose winning over Tampa Bay's "running scheme".

1) This could be a chronic thing.
2) Even them if he's cut there will be other teams interested and I doubt the Saints could afford his price tag. He isn't going to play for chicken feed.

That's what LeCharles Bentley thought too-
the Browns shortened Bentley's $36 million contract from six years to three, with 2008 set to be his last year under contract with the Browns. His salary was reduced to the NFL minimum $605,000 with incentives to reach $4 million.
