Do yourself a favor and try Omi on Essen

Went in there today and was the only patron from 1130-1230. I had the Cumin Spicy pork and it was very very good. It was spicy but not overwhelmingly so. Even with the heat the dish was exceptional flavorful, sometimes dishes are too spicy and the only taste is the heat. If you haven't been there and you enjoy Chinese venture over there soon.

Ate there last night. Seems they now get about a thread a every few weeks here. Maybe that will help keep em open in that death of a location.

do they have the hibachi set up like when it was wasabi [spelling?] yet? we went there just after it changed names and they didnt have it.

Omi needs to do themselves a favor and improve the presentation of their Chinese menu.

I took some coworkers there recently and they weren't inspired to order off of it despite my endorsement.

you don't need that crap when they have traditional northern Chinese food like they do. Only 1 other place in town like it and the omi owner was the chef there who started that menu.

I do agree that that particular menu needs descriptions under each item even though the staff will explain what is in them. I feel like asking about more than 2 or 3 items is cutting into the waiters time. There's been a time or 2 when I called in a to go order and asked the little bald manager what 3 or 4 things were and he sounded perturbed on the phone even though he has told me in person several times just ask what the things are and they would be happy to explain.... More user friendly would help matters that is for sure.

We went last night and enjoyed it, but I left with the feeling that with a little help from the staff it could have been a much better experience. Unless you speak Mandarin Chinese, the menu is difficult. Maybe this is no Occident, perhaps they just want to cater to the Asian population, there were several Chinese families there who all seemed to be enjoying themselves.

We ordered the steamed dumplings as an appetizer, 6 for $3.75, delicious and a pretty good bargain. We each ordered a small bowl of hot & sour soup, $2.50, small on the menu, large on the table. Frequently restaurants don't refresh the vinegar before serving and the soup is flat. This was excellent, both hot and sour.

Tempted by the name, we ordered Ants Climbing a Tree as one of the entrees. From the waitress's description I had no idea what to expect, and after devouring it I have no idea what I ate, but it was delicious. It seemed to be a gelatinous mass of thin sweet potato noodles, minced pork, ginger and garlic, in a sauce. Lots of flavor, a little difficult to eat, but I'd order in again in a heartbeat.

We also got the Omi Pork, $13.50. This was served in a small covered aluminum kettle, hotter than the surface of the sun. When it cooled down a bit, I'm not complaining, lukewarm food always ticks me off, the pot contained cubed pork and potatoes that had been roasted until the pork was falling apart, all redolent of 5 spices. This was very good also, the pork was a little fatty for my cardiologist, but I enjoyed the dish.

I always recommend passing up dessert in Asian restaurants, but my wife ordered some kind of cold petrified fruit when i wasn't paying attention. I'll skip it next time, sweets are not their forte.

Overall i really liked it, the prices were low to moderate, all of the dishes were excellent, I would love to bring an interpreter to get the full benefit of their skills.

They still make hibachi in the kitchen they just don't put on the show. My friend ordered steak hibachi and upgraded to filet. I don't eat steak out but it was incredibly tasty. The veggies were great and it was served with fried rice and lo mein iirc.
